Trend Alert: Faking a Shorter Style

Faking a shorter haircut by means of skillfully placed hair pins is nothing new. In fact, we saw Rosario Dawson do her own faux-crop late last year, followed by Nicole Kidman's asymmetric version. In recent times, the look has taken on resurgence in popularity, as celebrities have been tricking us out with their own adaptations, giving the appearance of freshly cut locks. Kate Beckinsale's full-in-the-front updo gave the illusion of an angled wedge at the Whiteout premiere; both Jennifer Lopez and Elizabeth Banks opted for wavy, tousled styles; and Kristen Stewart faked us out at the VMAs with her memorable faux bowl cut. It's a great look for the changing season, and for those of us who don't want to sacrifice length. (Learn to do it here.) What do you think of these mock styles?

Back in 1919, famed makeup artist Max Factor invented false eyelashes to enhance the dramatic performances of leading Hollywood starlets. Since then, there's been a bevy of lashes from which to choose, with Shu Uemura leading the industry in the most fashion-forward styles. (Even I've gotten in on the action.) MTV Video Music Awards: Jennifer Lopez

The divine Ms. Lopez took a night off from caring for twin bebehs Max and Emme to shine her divalicious light on the VMAs. And I do mean shine - she was glowing all the way down the red carpet. Her look was minimalist, but still sexy: a bare face with lots of luminizer for that heavenly glow, and slick hair that made her skin and amazing eyelashes stand out even more. The orange-gold lip was unusual, but I think it worked for her. What do you think? Does this look serve Jennifer well, or would you like to see more hair and makeup on her?

Jennifer Lopez Wants You to Glow Even More

Despite the fact that she's shuttered her clothing line, this October Jennifer Lopez is launching another version of Glow, the best-selling perfume that her marketing people call the "jewel of the Lopez lineup." The new scent, called My Glow ($49.50), aims to capture the love of a mother for her child.

So what does maternal affection smell like? Not what you might expect. WWD reports that My Glow has lavender, water lily, and freesia top notes; rose, peony and Casablanca Lily midnotes; and a body with lots of musk and sandalwood. As for the bottle, the cap is a pair of cherubs inspired by a soap Jennifer has in her nursery. (It also bears a striking resemblance to L'Air du Temps.) Will this be the mother of all fragrances for la Lopez? In a few months, we'll find out.

It's been a while since I've really thought about J.Lo Glow ($50), until reader MalibuMands brought it back into my mind on the Product Reviews website. Yeah, it's been around for a while, but is it still relevant? Find out why MalibuMands gave Jennifer Lopez's premiere fragrance a stellar review below:

Glow is different from all of the other celebrity fragrances. In fact, I think it’s different to every other scent out there. I’m not sure how to describe Glow, other then fresh and clean. I don’t pick up on the individual notes, and I just get the overall impression of an energetic burst and soap. It’s great for everyday wear, as it has great staying power. On the down side, you must spray lightly. I’ve been too heavy handed a few times and had migraines as a result. The bottle is striking; it has the curves of a woman’s body, and a (faux) jewel-encrusted J.Lo logo hung round the neck - bling for your dressing table.

How-To: Jennifer Lopez's Rock and Roll Hair

There was something different about Jennifer Lopez while promoting Samantha Thavasa's bag collection in Tokyo. Recently, we saw her leaving the salon with multidimensional locks and face-framing layers. And yesterday, the always-stylish Jennifer got all rock-and-roll on us, sporting this shaggy style with a sultry gaze.

Do you like this roughed-up, textured look? Celebrity stylist Ken Paves gave us the how-to on achieving this wow-factor hairdo. Get tips for recreating it at home when you read more.

Get undone: "We went for a very fresh and modern, effortless look," said Paves." I gave her more bangs and layers than usual for a glamorous yet, 'undone,' modern shag," he added.
She bangs: Paves cut bangs and layers into Jennifer's locks. Next, he applied his own Healthy Hair Volumizing Spray ($24) on her hair while it was still wet. To give a natural finish, he finger-dried the style, which fell right into place.
No bangs?: No problem. If you don’t have (or don't want) bangs, Paves says that you can easily fake them. He recommends trying his Clip-In Fringe ($152) for an instantly different look.

2009 Golden Globe Awards: Jennifer Lopez

When you're at the Golden Globes wearing a gold dress, chances are that you'll wear golden makeup to accessorize your look.

And that's just what Jennifer Lopez did, although I've got to applaud her for not going overboard with the theme. Her coppery shadow, warm bronzer, and neutral-hued lip gloss are warm and glowing. And her signature long locks are pulled back into a slick bun.

Jennifer Lopez Nails It

When you think of Jennifer Lopez's beauty, you probably think about her famously glowing skin or fragrance empire. That might change now that she's jumping on the celebrity black nail polish bandwagon. Proving that dark polish really is here to stay, she's been wearing Dior Vernis polish ($19) in Black Sequins. The silver-flecked black is more glam than goth, and if you prefer gold over silver, get a similar look with this double-layered manicure.

If you're going to go dark for Fall, a few tips will make your polish go on smoothly and last longer. First, be sure to soak your hands and push cuticles back; this should help you keep paint on the nail bed rather than on cuticles. Always use a base coat to avoid any yellowing from the dark polish, and clean your nails twice when it's time to remove the color.

Jennifer Lopez typically doesn't change the length or color of her hair often. She typically doesn't steer too far from a nudish pink lip, either. So, when Jennifer rocked a bright red lip yesterday at the launch of her new men's fragrance, Deseo, I was pleasantly surprised. Tell me, what's your favorite shade on Jennifer? Do you like when she sticks to her standard nude/coral palette, or do you prefer a bolder look?
