Trend Alert: The California-Casual Messy Loop

This casual hairstyle (not to be mistaken for the classic loopy bun) has been seen on the likes of Kate Hudson, Lauren Conrad and Jennifer Garner this week alone. What was once regarded as a messy and unkempt updo is actually très chic nowadays. It's popular because of its practicality. It's a great way to get your hair off your face and neck for sports or just for a stroll during the hot Summer days.

Simply pull all of your hair back in a high ponytail. Before you loop a snag-less elastic around your hair for the second or third time (depending on how thick your hair is), do not pull hair all of the way through - only pull it halfway through. This will create a loose loop. If your hair is layered, pieces of hair should fall, as will any wisps or short bangs - which is what makes this style so relaxed.

How-To: Jennifer Garner's Oscars Hair

Jennifer Garner strutted the red carpet last night in a sophisticated and loose sideswept hairstyle, balanced out by a sexy, smoky eye and luxe jewelry. Her hair stylist for the evening, Adir Abergel for Frederic Fekkai, gave me the scoop on how he achieved this look for the big night.

"The inspiration came to me when I first saw the dress on her, during her fitting with Rachel Zoe," he explained. "The dress had a very similar vibe to the hair that we ended up doing: a clean, chic, heavy side-parted bang, with a romantic knotted low twist in the back. Jennifer loved the idea and we ran with it. I knew that she wanted it up, and the rest was a fun collaborative team effort."

Step 1: On wet hair, work a styling product from root to tip to help give hair texture. Adir used Fekkai Coiff Shape and Set Mist.
Step 2: Part hair three-quarters of the way on one side, up from the outer corner of your eye. Blow-dry small sections at a time with a round brush and pin back each one as you go along. Adir let Jennifer's hair set for about 10 minutes.
Step 3: Using a 1-inch curling iron, curl the entire head of hair and allow to cool, then finish with a misting of Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairspray.
Step 4: Leaving the severe side bang out, gather the rest of the hair at the nape of the neck. Wrap it into a loose bun and pin in place. Pull out a few more strands around either side of the face.

Jennifer Garner managed to still look flawless, even while trying to avoid being kissed by Gary Busey on the red carpet. Whew, glad that's over! Jennifer went rather simple with her strapless black gown, and her makeup is pared down too - although I do spot a hint of a cat eye. More than anything, I'm loving her side-swept, ever-so-slightly unkempt bangs. What do you think of Jennifer's look?

Jennifer Garner looked radiant at the 2007 Glamour Women of the Year Event Monday evening in New York City. Her beauty looks peaceful and serene in these photos - the sign of a woman who is truly glowing from the inside out!

But as happy as I'd like to believe that Jennifer is, the magical hands of famous celebrity makeup artist Paul Starr have also helped (just a little bit) create this fresh faced, ethereal look.

FACE: Paul began by applying a light layer of Teint Innocence Naturally Luminous Fluid Makeup in Natural Beige all over Jennifer's face and the retouching any dark, red or uneven spots with Chanel Vitalumiere Satin Smoothing Creme Concealer in Candlelight . He believes that the essence of a woman should come through on her makeup. Since Jennifer is so down to earth, he didn't want to use anything too dark or heavy on her skin.
CHEEKS : Next, Paul blended a touch of nude-peach Nars Penny Lane Cream Blush onto the apples of her cheeks and blended outward toward her hair line. This creates a warm and natural-looking effect.
EYES: Jennifer's eyes glistened from Chanel's Quadra Eyeshadow in Shimmering Dunes and a smidgen of Chanel Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Gold smudged gently under the lower lash line. Next, Paul lined her top and bottom lash lines with Chanel Intense Eye Pencil in Noir and finished off the look with two mascaras; Inimitable Mascara in Noir on the top lashes and a bright colored Chanel Lash Building Mascara in Violet on the bottom lashes. Aw, even Paul couldn't resist using some violet somewhere. I am sure Jennifer appreciated this little nod to her little bundle of joy.
LIPS: Lastly, Paul brightened up Jennifer's lips with one of the world's most famous colors - Clinique Black Honey Almost Lipstick and topped them off with a little bit of Chanel Glossimer in Glaze for shine.

Welcome to the third installment of Beautiful Bangs for Your Face Shape. Celebrities such as Sarah Michelle Gellar, Beyonce, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Garner, Hillary Swank and Sarah Jessica Parker all have oval/long shaped faces. The best types of bang styles for them-or for you-are longer bangs that fall a little bit below the eyebrows.

Yet perhaps one special celeb whose bangs have evolved dramatically over the years is Halle Berry. Curious about what I mean? Check out some of her past hairstyles here.

If you have an oval face shape, you are lucky, since you can play around with many different bang options. For example, if your hair is thick, try a blunt-cut short bang. If your hair is thin, then a billowy fringe or long wisps will look great too!

The goal is to add some width and fullness at the sides so that your face looks more symmetrical. Avoid creating too much volume at the top, or you will only make your face look too drawn-out and oblong. (My mom calls this the "egghead.")

Beauty Byte: Jennifer Garner the New Face of Neutrogena

I wasn't surprised when I saw the news that Jennifer Garner has signed on as the new face of Neutrogena. But I was surprised that the youthful 35-year-old will be advertising antiaging products. According to Women's Wear Daily, the actress will appear in print and TV ads starting in September with Neutrogena's Anti-Oxidant Age Reverse line. Here's more from the article:

Garner will also appear in ads for Neutrogena's Healthy Defense SPF 45 Daily Moisturizer with Helioplex, a patented sunscreen designed to provide antiaging protection.

Garner said in a statement that Neutrogena had always been a part of her beauty regimen.

"I've used the products for years.…I feel an emotional connection to the brand because it represents healthy beauty - and that's something that I strongly support," she stated.

Garner's contract with the brand will run through December 2008 and pay out an estimated $1 million per year. Neutrogena and Garner definitely seems like a good fit; what do you guys think?
