There was something different about Jennifer Lopez while promoting Samantha Thavasa's bag collection in Tokyo. Recently, we saw her leaving the salon with multidimensional locks and face-framing layers. And yesterday, the always-stylish Jennifer got all rock-and-roll on us, sporting this shaggy style with a sultry gaze.

Do you like this roughed-up, textured look? Celebrity stylist Ken Paves gave us the how-to on achieving this wow-factor hairdo. Get tips for recreating it at home when you read more.

Get undone: "We went for a very fresh and modern, effortless look," said Paves." I gave her more bangs and layers than usual for a glamorous yet, 'undone,' modern shag," he added.
She bangs: Paves cut bangs and layers into Jennifer's locks. Next, he applied his own Healthy Hair Volumizing Spray ($24) on her hair while it was still wet. To give a natural finish, he finger-dried the style, which fell right into place.
No bangs?: No problem. If you don’t have (or don't want) bangs, Paves says that you can easily fake them. He recommends trying his Clip-In Fringe ($152) for an instantly different look.

Ken Paves Dishes on Eva Longoria's SAG Awards Hairstyle

It's clear that Eva Longoria and her longtime hairstylist, Ken Paves, have that certain client/stylist chemistry. "She is always willing to try something new and have fun," he said. "We laugh a lot." As for the curled updo last night? Paves looked to Longoria's peach chiffon gown for inspiration. "I saw this dress a couple weeks ago and instantly thought Grace Kelly 'Longoria,'" he explained. "I wanted to create something reminiscent of old-world glamour that was modern and would appear effortless."
While an appointment with Ken Paves might not be a reality, I've got the second best thing - hairstyling tips straight from the source. Paves created texture on Longoria's partially air-dried hair using Ken Paves Healthy Hair Volumizing Hair Spray ($24).
Next, he tousled her hair with his fingers while blowing it dry, allowing her part to fall naturally.
When her hair was dry, he used a 3/4-inch curling iron with random sectioning to encourage a natural texture. He also focused the direction of the curl down and away from the part.
Using Ken Paves Healthy Hair Shine Serum ($30), he broke up the wave by running his hands through her hair from roots to ends.
Next he broke up the curl further with a mixed bristle Mason Pearson brush and pulled her hair back loosely, pinning it with bobby pins.
For the finishing touch, he set the hair with Ken Paves Healthy Hair Strong Hold Shaping Hair Spray ($24).

How-To: Eva Longoria Parker's Hair at the 2009 Golden Globes

With such a show-stopping frock, I was glad to see a simpler hairstyle not try to compete with her Reem Acra gown and floral diamond buds. Personally, I think her look is lovely, so I'm glad to share this hairstyle with you.

Taking inspiration from 70's icon Ali MacGraw, Ken Paves created her simply timeless look. The key is to keep things straight and shiny, so find out how he did it when you read more.

Start with towel-dried hair and add a serum like Ken Paves Healthy Hair Shine Serum.
Part down the middle and blow-dry straight with a mixed-bristle brush (like a Mason Pearson).
Flat iron the hair and for added sleekness and pull low and tight before securing with an elastic. Wrap some hair around the base of the ponytail to hide the band, if desired.
For added shine, add more serum but leave a little texture around the hairline (i.e., don't slick hair back super-straight). This prevents the look from becoming too severe.
Help the look stay all day, or night, by finishing up with hairspray such as Ken's Healthy Hair Strong Hold Shaping Spray, which he used on Eva.

Celebrities spend so much time in the hair and makeup chair that they become super-duper close to their clientele. Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox pal around together with friend and hairstylist Chris McMillan often, and Jessica Simpson and Ken Paves are best friends! I'm not that close to my hairdresser, but I do love him.

I get lots of emails asking about tipping etiquette for hair, nails, and other general salon and spa treatments, so I thought it was time to address the issue. Growing up, my mother always told me that it is not standard practice to tip the owner of a salon.

This unspoken rule stems from the idea that the entire cost of your treatment goes to the house. So unless your level of service was exceptional (say they gifted you with a deep conditioning treatment or an eyebrow coloring), a tip is unnecessary. Do you think this rule still applies today? Big bang baby! Bangs are back! Just look at these delicate bangs at the Spring 2007 Marchesa show. This was the first show for these fancy shmancy designers and I must say, their evening dresses were gorgeous...all 26 of them!

The concept for the show was "Paparazzi Ready." The girls looked glam in their super short or super long dresses, soft and sweet looking makeup and their hair swept back in an updated ballet bun with bangs!
