Trend Alert: Nude, Matte Lips at the Emmys

On the red carpet last night, tons of celebrities played down their makeup, especially lips. As usual, there were lots of soft pinks and shimmers, but the dominant trend was nude, matte lips. Whether part of an understated look designed to let a dress or jewelry shine through, like Ginnifer Goodwin and Kristin Chenoweth, or as a soft foil to dramatic eyes, like Kim Kardashian and Mila Kunis, the matte lip is a sexy, subtle way to keep a dramatic look from being overdone. What do you think of a matte nude?

Kim's hair and makeup were looking very Jennifer Lopez in her Diddy years this evening, not that that's a bad thing. Silver-white eye shadow with big ol' honkin' false lashes is basically the inverse of the smoky eye, and it's bombshell sexy in its own right. The almost nonexistent slicked hair lets her gorgeous skin and enviable features stand out, and the neutral lip makes her pout even more pronounced without taking it over the top. Are you seeing what I'm seeing, though? Does this look have its good points, or should Kim have left it back in 2003?

Others are a little less adventurous with altering their style, but that doesn't mean they can't create a bevy of looks with just a flick of the bobby pin here or a styling product there. Teen Choice Awards: Kim Kardashian

Before the TCAs began, Kim Kardashian was all a-Twitter about her new look. The last time we saw her as a blonde, it was just a wig, but this time she really did reach for the bleach. "This one is staying," she said, telling PopSugar that this is her first-ever (!) dye job. Do you love this lighter look on her, or do you prefer her hair dark?

Trend Alert: Super Slick Ponytails

With wispy tendrils falling all over the place nowadays, I figured it was high time to give the bangless babes some love, too. I'd say polar opposite of the bohemian up-do would be the tightly together ponytail. Just this week alone, I spotted these three ladies wearing similarly sleek looks that focus on their face, makeup, and bone structure.
To bring this trend home, grab a high hold gel, paste, or pomade and comb your hair back so it's fairly smooth. Apply the product and then again comb it, this time fixing it up in your ponytail. Wrap and tuck part of your hair to hide the elastic, then style it wavy like Scarlett Johansson and Ashanti or stick-straight like Kim Kardashian. Lastly, I'd choose fun dangling earrings to lessen the severity of the 'do, but whether you leave your ponytail straight or curled is up to you.

Which Lipstick Do You Prefer on Kim Kardashian?

Kim Kardashian jetted down to Miami this weekend - must be nice! She chose an updated take on classic tomato-red lipstick at the opening of the Fontainebleau hotel, but went beachier at the Victoria's Secret fashion show by wearing a frosted light pink shade. I definitely have a preference between the two, but what about you?

Does Kim Kardashian Look Better With Full Makeup or None?

Glamour girl Kim Kardashian was spotted leaving the gym after a workout, and she wasn't wearing her normal face full of makeup. She's definitely skilled with her makeup application (and she's revealed her tips here). But after seeing her bare face, I have to wonder why she wears as much makeup as she does - she has beautiful skin! Which look do you think flatters her more?
