Trend Alert: Metallic, Bejeweled Nails

Katy Perry isn't the only celebrity hopping on the sparkly, encrusted nail bandwagon. Beyonce had similarly wild nails with heart-shaped jewels on them last night at the MTV Europe Awards, and Kristen Bell was sporting iridescent foiled nails recently, too. How-To: Kristen Bell's Braided Updo

Kristen Bell's red carpet appearances are almost always practically flawless, and at last night's premiere of Couples Retreat in LA, the actress dazzled once again. This time, it was her loose and wavy braided updo that had heads turning. To copy the look at home, you'll need just a few basic items and a little creativity:

Part your hair to the side and section off the front of your hair from the back. A good guideline is to create a part from ear to ear.

Next, pull the back section into a loose ponytail. Braid, using the four-strand method. Secure with an elastic band and twist the braid up toward the occipital bone. Secure with bobby pins.

Twist small sections of hair from the front into the back of the updo. Weave some of the strands together for a wavy effect. To create a seamless look, hide the pins behind the braid.

To finish off the look, curl face-framing strands, and softly pull back away from the face. Spritz on a volumizing spray for lift, like Nexxus 360 Volume Volumizing Design and Finishing Mist ($11.50).

While the lined-eyes-and-minimal-color look isn't exactly groundbreaking on the makeup front, it's a simple look that is both youthful and classic. 2009 Critics' Choice Awards: Kristen Bell

I loved Kristen Bell in last spring's hit, Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Yeah, her character was pretty stuck-up throughout much of the movie, but she became rather likable towards the end.

Speaking of likability . . . how do you feel about this style? She plays up the metallic tones of her dress and necklace with pearly hued shadow, tossing her tousled hair back on the sides. Some peach blush and gloss, long false lashes, and lots of black liner complete the look. So, fill me in. Is her look something unforgettable or one that you'll want to forget?

Love it or Hate it? Kristen Bell's Teen Choice Awards Look

Oh, Kristen - you are my "hero." You've managed to make a somewhat punky look appear friendly and edgy all at once.

I'm really into Kristen's hair, which has a slight wave on the ends and a cool, pin-straight bang to frame her face. The smoky copper eyes and rosy-hued lips and cheeks give her an undeniable hipness. I like a girl with an edge, and this would work well at a rock club. What do you think?

Get ready to see many more melon-colored nails this spring. Check out Kristen Bell promoting her new movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall. While her fingernails are a quite bright, there are tons of varying raspberry and fruit-punch colored polishes to choose from. Here are three of my favorite juicy melon-colored nail lacquers.

L'Oreal Pro Manicure Nail Polish in Mango Get Em ($4.99) is a quick-drying, toluene- and formaldehyde-free polish that claims to last seven days without chipping. It also contains a strengthening pro-keratin ingredient and results in a high-shine finish.

Cantaloupe by Essie ($8) is a soft and creamy coral-melon color that is made from a chip-resistant formula. Two coats are all you need for a long-lasting, glass-like sheen.

Duri Nail Enamel in Beachy Peachy ($5) may not have a melon name, but this deep peachy coral color with hint of iridescent shimmer fits the bill.

Kristen Bell's hair and makeup remind me a lot of Jaime Pressley's, but like how both women have tailored the look in small ways. Kristen has some loose tendrils, which I like-it's not stiff or helmet-like, as some updos can be.
