How To: Catwalk Coral Lips Plus Bold Brows

Now that the Fashion Weeks are over, we can sit back and reflect on some of the key trends. From the gorgeously varied looks at Paris to the edgier styles at London Fashion Week, it's time to start working those trends already. One of my hot tips for next Spring is the bold lip colours seen on the catwalks at Osman Yousefzada, Betty Jackson and Harriet's Muse.

Celebrity makeup artist Lisa Eldridge, who is also Creative Director for No7, was the creative genius behind the bold brows and strong coral lips at Osman Yousefzada. She says of the look "I wanted the makeup to work perfectly alongside Osman’s beautiful clothes. The look needed to reflect his modern, minimalist vision so I focused on ensuring a perfect, clean base that is offset by the striking coral lips – my favourite colour from the Osman collection – and bold, angular brows."

I spoke to her about her top tips to re-create this look at home to ensure you'll be bang on trend for next Spring. She says "Achieving this look is very simple and it has a bold, fresh appeal that's also wearable."

Face: To ensure a flawless base Lisa first applied No7 Instant Radiance Concealer, (£13.25). Its light reflecting formula helps to reduce the appearance of dark circles and puffiness. Lisa then used No7 Protect & Perfect Foundation, (£15.50), which gives great coverage and a 'high definition' effect.
Brows:. Bold brows were the focus of the look and were used to balance the strong lip shade. Lisa used No7 Precision Brow Pencil, (£10), to ensure a strong colour.
Lips: "The coral lips are the real focus point" says Lisa. She custom blended the shade backstage at the show but to get the look try No7 Stay Perfect Lipstick, (£10), in Gay Geranium.
Eyes: Lisa kept the eyes neutral, just using No7 Stay Perfect Eye Shadow, (£7), in Innocence on the lids and blended up to the brows. She then applied lashings of No7 Extreme Length Mascara, (£12). Lisa suggests "to achieve the most impact, begin by massaging the brush at the roots of your lashes, then zig zag up to the tips to achieve maximum length and definition.”

New Product Alert: The Balm Read My Lips Lipstick

Extra, extra! The Balm is full of news. Not only have they just launched a set of six new lipsticks called Read My Lips ($16), but I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate Marissa, the matriarch of The Balm, on the birth of her baby! These media-inspired lipstick shades have cute names such as Letter to the Editor, Gossip, and Classified.

The texture is sheer and shiny, and since the lipsticks include olive oil and jojoba, they glide smoothly right over your lips. Also, as opposed to having a traditional lipstick-glycerin smell, they are infused with mint and vanilla. You'll feel a little bit of tingle at first, but don't worry, it's not a lip plumper that's just the mint. Lastly, all of the packaging is eco-friendly since it's made from secondary forests and recycled paper. I'm really into Smut, a pretty shimmering plum. Coming Soon: Elizabeth Arden Color Intrigue Effects Lipstick

Usually when we see Catherine Zeta-Jones in her Elizabeth Arden ad campaigns, she's looking glamorous and classic. Not so with this new promotional photo for the brand's Color Intrigue Effects Lipstick ($19.50). Catherine looks hypermodern, runway ready, and a little bit like Victoria Beckham (to me, anyway).

So aside from this out-of-the-ordinary photo, what's different about the lipstick? Break out your old chemistry notes: It contains three esters, which provide shine and emollient properties. It also contains vitamins A, C, E, and aloe, so it won't dry out your lips. The 18 shades are all shiny, but they have different effects: creams, shimmers, and pearls.

The shades are launching online first (right now there are a few available) and hit counters in May. FYI: Catherine's favorite color is Cranberry Cream, and when I post a followup review of the lipsticks, I'll let you know which one I like best, too.

Pastel Products, Part III: Lively Lips

Spring is a great time to play around with pretty shades of pastel lip colors. While some years breed paler pouts than others, one of this season's hottest beauty trends involves vibrant variations on pinks, purples, peaches, and even yellows. Here are three colors I love, and a few more that are just too fun to leave out.

Trish McEvoy Lip Gloss in Serene ($22) is a sheer lilac color that looks beautiful blended over a deep purple or pink lipstick. The consistency is thick and creamy, and although it's slightly sticky, it is also extraordinarily shiny.

Givenchy Pop Gloss in Fizz Peach ($23.50) is a creamy peach lip gloss with little sparkles in the formula that reflect light. The texture is smooth, the shine is remarkable and the color is sheer (and looks fab with a fake tan)!

L' Oreal Colour Riche Lipstick in Peach Fuzz ($6.99) is an ultracreamy, moist, hydrating lipstick with a hint of shimmer. I have a few of these lipsticks and love how there are so many colors to choose from. They look great alone (since they're so creamy) and they also look amazing under a shiny, sheer gloss that is shimmer free. I think after you try one, you'll be hooked, too.

New Product Alert: Bobbi Brown Creamy Lip Color

Bobbi Brown is never going to come out with flashy colors or super-glittery items, and that's just fine by me - especially when she consistently has beautiful, easy-to-wear colors like those in her new line of Creamy Lip Color. The 14 shades range from baby pinks to rich raisins to marvy mauves, and there really is something for every skin tone here.

What's different about these lipsticks is their texture. They're creamy with a bit of shine, and the color is supposed to be long-lasting. Since the formula has shea butter and other plant-based skin conditioners, it should go on smoothly without any pulling. I just picked up a few of these, so I'm going to try them out and update you with a review next week. For now, check out the colors here.

New Product Alert: Chanel Crème Gloss Lumière

Chanel Beauté keeps introducing new, beautiful treats that I'm dying to try. The latest is a hybrid of lipstick and lip gloss called Crème Gloss Lumière ($32). It's a creamy gel-based formula intended to provide more coverage and less stickiness than a traditional lip gloss, yet it manages to gives off just as much shine and moisture as a lipstick.

The velvety color is stored in an easy-to-use makeup pen with a brush attached for even application. It's available in six shades: Plum Soufflé (berry plum), Madeleine (rosy pink), Pink Truffle (berry red), Crème Caramel (neutral brown), Petit Four (soft nude) and Crème Brulée (bright coral). And since these are all names of some of my favorite French sweets, I'm finding this quasi-gloss twice as nice.

New Product Alert: Coach Cosmetics

Don't hate me, but I've never understood the overwhelming popularity of Coach bags. I just can't get into logo prints, I guess. Still, I have a feeling that its new lipstick line will do very well-especially among shoppers who want a piece of the Coach brand, but can't splurge on a $600 bag.

Since I'm not a Coach junkie, I haven't tried these lipsticks ($18 each), but they're supposed to be pretty sheer and light. Because the ingredients include shea butter and almond oil, the lipsticks should also be moisturizing-a big plus in my book. Right now there are only three colors: Poppy, Rose, and Peony. And if you are a big fan of that capital-C logo, you'll be happy to know that it's subtly imprinted on each lipstick tube.

Bellissima! Clinique's Black Honey Has Three New Sister Shades

Although this lipstick range is part of the Fall 2007 Play In The Darks collection by Clinique, that I told you about in late July, these three new shades of Almost Lipstick struck a chord when I realized that they are renditions of the ever-popular cult favorite Black Honey Almost Lipstick. At first I thought there was just one new version out called Black Plum, but I have recently learned about two more shades in Black Raspberry (bright, sheer pink) and Black Raisin (deep wine).

There's a reason I am so excited. These aren't just any lipsticks, they could arguably be some of the best lipsticks ever created. They look intimidatingly dark in the tube, but they glide on smooth and the result is a shiny, sheer and clean stain-like finish.

The shades are universally flattering (I swear, they really are) and one of these skinny tubes is packed with color that will last you a long, long time. Each of the colors are sold separately for $14. How do you feel about these new versions of Black Honey being added to the elite Almost Lipstick sisterhood?

How Bésame Lipstick Is Made, Step by Step

This month, Business Week provides a peek into the business end of Bésame cosmetics. Entrepreneur Gabriela Hernandez started the company with $1 million of her own money, brought the retro-inspired line to high-end stores such as Henri Bendel in 2004, and is set to do $1.7 million dollars in sales this year alone.

The story has plenty of advice for would-be entrepreneurs, but I was more interested in the accompanying audio slide show. It's a step-by-step tour of the lipstick-making process, from designing the tube to filling them with the finished product. (Remember the Sesame Street segment that showed viewers how crayons are made? It's a lot like that.)

A more in-depth guide explains each tiny step, but here are some highlights:

The lipstick tube design is inspired by a lipstick case that belonged to Hernandez's grandmother.
After sketches are drawn, a 3-D prototype is made.
At the factory, custom-built molds hold 80 lipsticks at a time. The lipstick formula is heated, then poured into these molds before cooling on a frozen table.
After the lipsticks are inserted into their tubes, they're flamed to create a high-shine finish.

Yves Saint Laurent Dresses Lipstick in Couture

New from YSL is Yves Saint Laurent Lip Twins Duo, $30. Here is a totally new concept in cosmetics. Lip Twins Duo is a double lipstick encased in couture jewel-like packaging. This luxurious gold cylinder houses: two lipsticks, a mirror and when you pull out the monogrammed crown...you'll even find a brush! Keep turning the YSL logo for endless surprises.

The concept behind this invention is that a woman can now combine colors and textures to suit her many different moods. Wait, is this a little condescending? Women don't have mood swings (wink).

One side of the cylinder contains a satin lipstick that adds fullness to your lips. It has a rich texture and contains filler micro-spheres composed of dehydrated hyaluronic acid. They capture moisture on the lips like molecular sponges to really plump them up and fill in fine lines.

The second twin is a glossy lipstick that adds life and lustre to your lips. It contains Colorshine pigment complex that diffuses light like a magnifying glass to keep your lips shiny, smooth and ultra soft.
