"Taylor wanted her lips to be very natural," explains Ms. Swift's makeup artist, Lorrie Turk. The trick to faux bare lips, according to Turk, is actually very simple. "I applied Cover Girl LipPerfection lip color in Enthrall to her lips with my fingertip to push the color in," Turk says. The result was a pretty, barely there stain that would make a great date-night lip look.

Red lipstick has become synonymous with Valentine's Day, but crimson-hued lips don't have to be your only option. "I like a flushed cheek," says Mark celebrity makeup artist Mai Quynh, who recommends getting the look with the brand's Just Pinched Blush Tint in Cheeky or Spicy, depending on your skin tone.

Another way to give your complexion a fresh, fun finish is "to incorporate a pink-toned eye shadow to pop up the eyes in the crease," Quynh explains, recommending Custom Pick Eye Shadow in Sugar Sugar. "Or, you can use pink lips instead of red ones."

And for a brightened effect, finish with a highlighter, such as Touch & Glow Shimmer Cream All Over Face Palette, above your cheekbones and on your brow bone. Usually we consider ourselves lucky if a lipstick looks good on us and doesn't make our lips dry like the Sahara. Perhaps our standards are a bit unusual, but we've been doing this a long time. Even hard-eyed beauty editors, though, know a cool find when they see it, and Lola Duo lipstick ($22) is exactly that.

It's a typical columnar lipstick, but each side is a unique shade that works on its own or layered together. Our favorite shade is Strawberry/Cream, a pair of pink shades that are both pretty by themselves, and turn into a soft, sheer berry shade when you mix them.

Valentine's Day is well-nigh, and that means you might have red lipstick on the mind. And then there's the uncertainty in deciding whether or not a warm or cool color is most flattering. It can all be very unnerving. When it comes down to it, however, "I think it's about preference," explains Mark celebrity makeup artist Mai Quynh, who offers up her top tips for doing red right below.

The undertones: "Most people can do both warm and cool," Quynh says, adding, "I recommend trying on both tones to see which complements your skin better."
The texture: Textures also play a huge part. "Wearing a bright sheer color will be less vibrant than an opaque lipstick," Quynh advises. Of course if you're still stumped, just get them on. "Trying reds on your lips is a great way of figuring out what looks good. It takes the guessing part away."

If you adored a Bobbi Brown makeup shade that got discontinued, here's some excellent news. On Feb. 1, the makeup brand is launching its Bobbi Brings Back campaign on Facebook. Fans are getting the chance to revive their favorite discontinued shades; lip color is the first product they're bringing back, but soon the campaign will also tackle blush, eye shadow, and other "hero" products.

"It's important to me that I'm always listening to my fans," Brown says. "This is an opportunity for me to show my Facebook followers that I appreciate all of their support over the years and thank them. We're bringing back classic Bobbi Brown lip colors solely based on what the fans want." Voting closes on Feb. 29, and the lip colors with the most votes will be available this Fall. They'll only be for sale to Bobbi Brown Facebook fans, though, so if you want to get your hands on them, you'll have to like their page.

McAdams blended several shades to create Sofia's. Her base coat was CoverGirl Lip Perfection in Eternal ($7), and then to create the perfect color, she topped that with CoverGirl Blast Flipstick in Vixen ($9). This isn't the first time Sofia's worn Eternal, either; McAdams has tweeted about using it on the actress before, so clearly Ms. Vergara is a fan of the shade.
