Marc Jacobs Makes A Splash

Marc Jacobs has just released a new trio of limited-edition Splash Scents in Ivy, Violet, and Amber. His first three original splashes, Grass, Rain and Cotton, turned out to be huge hits. These new eau de toilette sprays are terrific for fragrance junkies who love the smell of the seasons, since they are designed to capture the essence of the fall and holiday season. You can buy a 10-ounce bottle here for $65.

Violet Body Splash is the most warm and sensual of the three. Made from violet, royal blossom, bergamot, peony, orchid, cedar wood, vanilla, creamy musk, and gingerbread, this will keep you smelling delicious and feeling cozy all winter long.

Ivy Body Splash is my choice for fall. It's got a warm and rich autumn blend of nutmeg, cardamom, mandarin, candy-cane accord, vetiver, and sandalwood. It is very light and the most masculine of the three. I like the stronger woodsy aroma.

Amber Body Splash is more exotic. Made from crystallized ginger, star anise, amber, lily, cassia bark, and cashmere wood, it was inspired by the fall sun and ancient beauty. Unfortunately, this was my least favorite of the three.

If you haven't figured it out by now, I am a big Marc Jacobs fan. Who isn't? I love his clothes, bags, shoes, pretty much anything except for those ugly boots from a couple of days ago! Being such the fan that I am, I am excited to try this new Grass Splash. Not only is it in a cool bottle, but what smells better than freshly cut grass on a summer day?

According to Saks.com:

Based on the scent of freshly cut grass that only exists during the peak of summer, this rich splash evokes the fragrance of a dense, green garden.

Top notes: freshly snapped snow peas

Middle notes: white muguet, wild flowers

Base notes: soft woods, dewy musks

Brace yourself for another set of Marc Jacobs Splashes due out in April. This time around, MJ doesn't mess with fancy floral or grassy fragrances. Nope, the limited-edition Sorbet Splashes ($65 each) come in Grapefruit, Basil and Pear scents.

The scents are designed for layering, but of course they can be worn separately. (Remind you of Jo Malone much?) And once again, they come packaged in Marc's signature thick glass bottles.

I haven't been able to get my hands on any samples yet, but after reading about the ingredients, I am most excited about Pear Splash. There's something refreshing about biting into a sweet and juicy over-ripe fresh fruit in the summertime.

For more specifics,

Basil Splash contains notes of tomato leaf, lemongrass, basil, freesia, jasmine, white musk, cashmeran, sandalwood and orange flower.
Grapefruit Splash is made from a blend of citrus, woods, orange flower, watery ozone (what's that), ginger, freesia, tagette, amber, white musk and patchouli.
Pear Splash is a mix of bergamot, lemon zest, pear, freesia, juniper, gin accord, musk, teak-wood and amber.

Coming Soon: Marc Jacobs Home Fragrance Collection

This month, Marc Jacobs is debuting a new collection called Home. Marc has loves entertaining at home, so in conjunction with his Splash Fragrances, he has a new home fragrance collection.

Home features notes of tropical rain accord, passion flower and beech amber. In typical Jacobsian fashion, the packaging fuses contemporary and classic elements. The bottle, like all of his other Splash scents, is an over-sized glass rectangle.

To read the about each of the products in the Marc Jacobs Home collection,

Room Fragrance Mist ($65) can be spritzed in any room for instant refreshment, or it can also be used on linens. It comes with an sleek black fabric atomizer for an elegant touch.
Scent Decanter with Sticks ($65) is a reed diffuser. As the wooden sticks absorb the fragrance oil, and the scent diffuses into the air.
Moisturizing Hand Wash ($30) is a gentle hand cleanser. I'd want to put this in a guest bathroom (er, if I had one) to spoil visitors with a little bit of luxury.

Beauty Byte: Marc Jacobs Launching Daisy Fragrance

It's no secret that FabSugar loves Marc Jacobs, as do millions of other young fashionistas. I'm also a fan, particularly of Jacobs' Splash fragrance line. Now, Women's Wear Daily tells us that Jacobs' next scent, called Daisy, will be released in August. Very smartly, Jacobs is using the sunny scent to go after younger customers. According to the article:

“We wanted to do something that had a youthful, fresh spirit,” Jacobs said of his scent, aptly called Daisy Marc Jacobs. Speaking during an exclusive phone interview Wednesday afternoon, he said, “Daisy is more youthful, while my gardenia and jasmine scents [Marc Jacobs for women and Blush Marc Jacobs, respectively] are more singular and definitely more ‘designer’ scents. I don’t want to say they’re older, but they’re more sophisticated.”

The floral fragrance will have top notes of strawberry, violet leaves, and ruby-red grapefruit, plus gardenia, jasmine, and other accents. Daisy will also get a wider distribution than Jacobs' other, more mature fragrances, and it will be offered exclusively by Bloomingdale's in the first month. To top it all off, the bottle will have three plastic daisies adorning the cap. I can't wait to pop open a bottle.
