Hey, you all, everybody. Beauty and the Feast recently talked with Emily Katz, lead makeup artist for Lost. If you're a Lostie, definitely check out the interview to find out how the stars look so good despite being chased by a scary, scary smoke monster. One good tip: Katz uses matte bronzer instead of a shimmery one for a more natural, I'm-stuck-on-this-island look. Dust it on your nose, cheekbones, and anywhere else the sun hits - but don't forget to wear your SPF, because sporting a real sunburn is worse than listening to Drive Shaft on repeat.

Magnificent Matte Bronzers

Last week, I told you about mineral bronzers, which are great for sensitive and acne-prone skin. But if you've got an oily complexion that needs shine control, matte bronzers are the best way to get a sun-kissed look. Made from extremely refined powders, these are long lasting and help to even out your skin tone.

To use, apply them where the sun would normally tan your face. Begin with a light application (they can get heavy fast) to the bridge of your nose, the apples of your cheeks, the top of your cheekbones, and your temples and blend well. They also work great for contouring to create sexy, modelesque cheekbones. Here are a few of my favorites.

Molton Brown Bareface Glow Bronzing Powder is a double-matte but very light bronzer made from extracted waterlily flower and meadowfoam seed oil. The Balm is getting ready to launch a new matte bronzer called Bahama Mama ($18) in May. I've got pretty pale skin naturally, so this bronzer is great. It's sheer and it has a soft, gentle bronzing effect, which makes for a fabulous, natural-looking transition product before I have any trace of a summertime (real or fake) tan.

I love that there is no shimmer to it and it doesn't make my face look dirty or muddy like other matte bronzers can. Estée Lauder Goes For the Gold This Fall

When it comes to makeup, I love gold, much like Austin Powers's nemesis, Goldmember. Not only does this shimmery color blend nicely with all skin tones, it helps bring a brightness to the complexion like none other. Estée Lauder's limited-edition Sensuous Gold collection features this gilded shade, accompanied by warm nudes and rose accents.

The highlights of the collection, which undoubtedly played a part in a "your makeup looks great" compliment I received this morning, include the Signature Eyeshadow Quad with Hammered Gold Design ($35), featuring four flattering colors that run the gamut from matte to shimmery finishes, and the Gilded Rose Marbleized Shimmer Powder ($36), a multitoned, brightening sheer coverage bronzer. Make Bronzer Look Natural With These Easy Tips

We all know that the only safe tan is a fake one, but if you don't want to commit to self-tanner, it's time to break out the bronzer. The key is to avoid the Malibu Barbie look. "When women want to look tan, a lot of times they will make their entire face tan with bronzer or tinted moisturizer," says Carol Shaw, makeup artist and founder of LORAC cosmetics. "It's too much." What's more, she adds, it can leave the neck white, creating a visible line along the jaw.

For a more natural look, use a shimmer-free powder bronzer. Shaw recommends her LORAC Baked Matte Satin Bronzer, which goes on ultra-sheer but can be built up for more intensity. (On a budget? Try Physicians Formula's version.) Use a brush to dust it where the sun would hit: on your cheekbones, the tip of the nose, your chin, and forehead. "You can dust it on your neck, too, so that your face and neck match," Shaw adds. And don't forget, you can use bronzer on your eyelids for a simple, natural-looking hue, too.

Physicians Formula has gone green! The brand has recently launched a line of eco-conscious, animal-friendly cosmetics called Organic wear. The packaging is made from (mostly) recycled paper as opposed to plastic, the brushes are goat hair, and every product is free of parabens, chemicals, preservatives, and fragrance. This is great news for those of you with sensitive skin.

Organic wear products are made from internationally certified organic ingredients that have been EcoCert-approved. I've tried several of the items and what I love the most is that they are natural-looking, build-able, and mattifying.
