Avril Lavigne Designs a Nail Strips Collection For Sally Hansen

She's known for her pop-punk hits and even as a clothing designer, and now Avril Lavigne has channeled her creative spirit into nail art. Starting this April, the singer will launch a limited-edition collection with the Sally Hansen Salon Effects brand. And in true Avril fashion, the polish strips ($10 each), which will feature 12 different designs, will include rocker-chic patterns like tiny skulls and leopard print.

"It's supercool because the designs that I came up with are my personal style and vibe - they're rock 'n' roll and fun and bright and colorful. You have sparkles and little stars - they are cute," Avril explained in an interview with WWD. Avril has already ventured into the beauty business with the launches of fragrances Black Star, Wild Rose, and Forbidden Rose, so what can we expect next from the star? Avril quipped, "I think it would be cool to do hair color."

Here's a closer look at China Glaze's nail polish collection, Colours of the Capitol, which lands in stores at the beginning of March. The 12 hues are inspired by the districts of Panem, but we find them a little bit Seam-y, with a nod to Katniss's fire dress for good measure. If you missed out on the "flaky" nail polish trend the first time around, this is your chance to try it out. Zoya's new Fleck Effect topcoats ($8 each) are full of Mylar "flecks" that create a pretty holographic effect on nails. They're all transparent and pretty versatile, but if we had to choose one we'd take the pink shade, Chloe. The orange, gold, and red tones in the flecks will go well with any warm-toned nail polish, and the shade reminds us of the fire inside an opal. The other two shades, Maisie (blue) and Opal (green) are also really fun to wear, but Maisie looks better over cool-toned polishes, and Opal is prettiest over black, navy, and green, making it a little more edgy. How to Remove Glitter Nail Polish

The holiday season is rife with glitter nail polish of all sorts, from flakies to hexagon shapes to everything in between. And while this variety of lacquer is festive and fun, the removal process isn't always quite as joyous. You don't have to use mountains of cotton pads and gallons of polish remover to get the shimmery stuff off, however. Just follow these simple tips below to make it easy on yourself.

Step 1: Completely saturate a cotton ball with acetone nail polish remover. Next, set the soaked cotton ball on your pinky nail and wrap it completely in aluminum foil.
Step 2: Repeat the process on each of your fingers and thumb, pressing down on the foils while the remover works its magic.
Step 3: Let sit for about five minutes and then slide the foils off to reveal glitter-free nails.
Step 4: Repeat steps one through three on the opposite hand.
