Love It or Hate It? Padma Lakshmi's Pageboy Look

Padma Lakshmi has that mom-to-be glow these days, and she's sporting a sleek new hairstyle, too. While we're used to seeing her with hair that's either in big, beautiful waves or swept back in a variety of updos, last night at the Made In Italy party, she went for thick bangs split in the middle. Padma's so pretty that anything, really, would look great on her, but do you think these bangs are a flattering new look, or a faux pas?

Foodie goddess Padma Lakshmi must have a hankering for a gyro, because she was all Greek tonight, from her dress to her impressively sized braided bun. The hair is a lot, but it's a great way to add volume and call attention to fine features. What do you think, though? Was this look worthy of Mount Olympus or a mistake only a mortal could make?

How-To: Do It Like Loren

...and Padma and even Anne. In the most recent issue of Allure, I read a cool tip that Top Chef's Padma Lakshmi follows to create Sophia Loren-esque eyes. First, she starts by applying some black eyeliner to her lash line, then adds a blue liner on top. Simple, easy, and sexy - a classic look.

Usually, having any black and blue anywhere on my body is something I try to avoid, but we're talking Sophia Loren here, so I just had to try to duplicate this look. I began by drawing a winged out, heavy-on-the-outer-corners black line, then smudged on a deep navy liner powder. The results were dramatic, trendy, and oh-so 1960s chic.

Whose Pastel Eye Shadow Looked Best at Marc Jacobs?

Yesterday, Marc Jacobs put on one of the biggest fashion shows of the season. (FabSugar has plenty to say about the new collection of clothing.) The front row was packed with stars sporting makeup trends including pastel eye shadow and perfect skin (check out Mischa Barton and Carmen Electra on Pop). Out of Padma Lakshmi, Courtney Love and Posh, whose pastel shadow do you like best?

Love Your Scars, Love Yourself

We live in a culture that doesn't value women's scars. There are a ton of creams, oils, and gels, in fact, that exist specifically to get rid of them. And while I understand the impulse to erase them and have certainly used scar-fading products myself, I also think that it's wrong to behave as though they're categorically a bad thing. Scars mark your continued survival and tout your ability to heal, to surmount obstacles. They're also universal-I don't know anyone who doesn't have at least one, whether it's from an accident, a wasp sting, chickenpox, or falling out of a tree. I have several myself, and I don't think they make me a less attractive person. In some cases, people look a whole lot sexier with their scars. Even celebrities like Padma Lakshmi, who are held to a much higher standard of "perfection" than the rest of us, have them and continue to look amazing. So don't be ashamed of your scars. Every one of them is, in its own way, a little personal victory, one you should feel free to celebrate.
