Feel Floral and French Thanks to Paul & Joe

In another life, I'd be a fabulous French femme who strolled the streets of Paris in simple but chic outfits. An Isabel Marant dress here, a sequined Vanessa Bruno tote there, and a Paul & Joe coat to top it all off - so French, so chic. Unfortunately, not only am I not even vaguely French, I also can't afford the steep prices of those clothes.

What I can splurge on, however, feels just as French without making such a hard hit on my pocketbook. Paul & Joe Beauté has the cutest limited-edition Starlet palette ($38). It's a trio of super-versatile shadows: a slightly sparkly light mauve, a smoky dark amethyst, and a matte deep purple. So whether I want to do a nonchalant, "I'm shopping in the Marais" nearly-nude eye look or a sexier, "It's 2 a.m. and we've just left Nouveau Casino" eyeliner-heavy one, this floral compact makes me feel like a gallic gal - even if my morning croissant isn't quite authentic.

Product Review: Paul & Joe Refreshing Leg Emulsion

Last month, Paul & Joe launched a few new nail and body products for Summer 2008. Of the bunch, my favorite product is the Refreshing Leg Emulsion ($30). This citrusy-mint scented lotion is actually formulated with oil to penetrate deep into your skin, however, it dries to a powdery, velvety-soft finish. It's cool - and I mean that literally, because it also contains baby peppermint leaves and elderflower extract to create a cooling effect on your legs.

If you really work it into your skin (as directed), it helps to reduce some of the swelling and inflammation that tends to occur in the heat and humidity of the Summer. In turn, it will also help improve the rate of absorption and your blood circulation.

It goes on super-creamy and has an intense sheen that gives your legs a healthy-looking glow. Within a few moments, you'll feel a slight tingle and a pleasant coolness as the air mixes with the lotion.

STEP 1: Use anywhere from one to two teaspoons of emulsion on each leg. Start at your feet and spread it evenly over your leg using the palm of your hand.
STEP 2: Twist your hand from your calves to the front of your leg in upwards motion, all the while applying a good amount of pressure.
STEP 3: As a finishing touch, push on the various pressure points in your legs (see the illustration below) and slide your palm from your ankle to your knee in an upwards motion.

As you may know, I'm a bit of a cat lady. (Have you met Milo and Minou?) So it's no surprise that I'm hoping dear ol' Santy Claws will bring me this Paul & Joe holiday face kit. Available in two shades, it features a sheer lipstick and swirly cheek color. But the real attraction is this achingly twee little printed makeup pouch. It's so ridiculously girlish and over-the-top that it somehow becomes slightly subversive. Paired with sleek skinny jeans and a slim black tee, it would be a little sweet, a little tough - kinda like one pretty kitty.

Paul & Joe Beauté is hard to find, though it's stocked in Anthropologie. If you see this kitty kit, I wouldn't blame you if you were to pounce on it...

As you may already know, the French clothing company Paul & Joe has branched out into developing beauty products. I couldn't resist writing about their ultra chic metallic nail polish color called, Etoile Scintillante, $12.

Reese's Lipstick In Walk The Line

By now I am sure you've all seen this musical hit from last year. In this film, our American Beauty traded in her famous golden tresses for rich dark locks and transformed herself to resemble the American singer June Carter Cash.

Her hair and makeup were gorgeous and when the movie was released I got many requests to help y'all find the perfect pink lipstick shades she wore in the movie. Below are two different powerful pink lip looks from the movie; one evening and one day. Enjoy!

In this scene, Reese is wearing a combo of Paul and Joe Lipstick in Camelia Fou, (a more hot pink color than the coral shade example that is shown), $18 and La Femme Lipstick in Coral Glow, $5.
