2009 Oscars: Penelope Cruz

Penelope is up for for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, in which she plays a passionate artist. Her character wears her long hair in an unkempt style, but tonight, Penelope goes for smooth and shiny, with her dark brown hair styled in a classic French twist. Regardless of how her hair is done, she always seems to exude sexiness - am I right? Apricot lipstick and shimmery copper eye shadow highlight her dark features. Does this look get a thumbs up, or does it not quite hit the mark?

2009 Independent Spirit Awards: Penélope Cruz

Have you seen Vicky Cristina Barcelona yet? It's such a pretty film, made only more beautiful by the illustrious Penélope Cruz. It's no wonder why she was nominated for her performance in the movie. But enough about her film, let's discuss her red-carpet look. From a makeup viewpoint, the focus is most definitely on her super dark and smoky eyes, where she chose a chocolate color that complemented her brown dress. The tone of her highlights is of a similar color. It's no surprise, then, that her cheeks have more of an auburn hue than the typical rosy tint. Tell me, how are you liking Penelope's autumnal aura?

Trend Alert: Cool-as-Ice Eye Shadow

Things got a little chilly - on the style tip, at least - at the 2009 Screen Actors Guild Awards. While the red carpet saw an abundance of cool-toned blue gowns, some actresses opted for cool-toned shadows. They ranged from subtle silvers, as seen on Emily Blunt, to bold blues à la Freida Pinto. One common theme? Regardless of whether the shadow has a matte or shimmery finish, this look dazzles best with complementary rosy- or pink-toned cheeks and lips.

2009 Golden Globe Awards: Penelope Cruz

Wearing long, sideswept bangs with her hair partly up, Penelope Cruz shows more hair than another recent look . . . and the multi-tonal color really shines through when it's down like this.

She does stick with her traditional, understated makeup with mauve lips, an allover glow (courtesy of Chanel Powder Blush in Rose Petale), and a subtly smoky style. Her eyeliner and strong brows bring out her eyes and her shadow reaches past the corners of them to add just a little bit of extra glamour. Do you think this look stands out?

2009 Critics’ Choice Awards: Penelope Cruz

While Penelope Cruz's slicked-back style emphasizes her lovely hairline, it manages to come across both elegant and edgy at the same time. Those sparkly earrings add another regal touch to her look and draw the eye down to her face and away from her jet-black hair.

Her lipstick is on the pale side, but it's definitely colored within the lines (look at her upper lip especially). She took the same approach to her eyes, using dark pencil and soft, smoky shadow to define them. I think she's stunning no matter how she's styled, but do you think this look stands out?

Regardless of the haircare sponsor of any show during Fashion Week, stylists pack L'Oreal Elnett hairspray in their bags like contraband. Which it is: The stuff has been banned in the US since 1987 due to the use of ozone-damaging flourocarbon propellants. Until now, that is. With a few small tweaks to the delivery system, L'Oreal is releasing Elnett Satin next month exclusively through Target. Prices range from $6.99 for two ounces to $13.99 for 11 ounces, one variety of which includes a UV filter.
