Trend Alert: Pale Pink Lips at the 2008 ESPY Awards

Can you guess what these pretty ladies at the 2008 ESPY Awards all have in common? Although they aren't the most famous faces we're used to seeing on BellaSugar, each of them has starred in a reality TV show on E!

Kourtney Kardashian's step-dad is Olympian Bruce Jenner, Brittny Gastineau practically has sports in her blood (her estranged father is former NFL player Mark Gastineau) and Kendra Wilkinson is a self-proclaimed sports junkie. For all of these reasons and more, they've come to the ESPYs and they all arrived with pale pink lips.

This sex-kitten pale pink lip trend has been just as popular as the nude lip for nearly half a decade. We've seen it looking super glossy, chalky and opaque and semi-sheer (like in the photos above). What's your favorite pale pink lip product?

What We're Sweet On: Great Lip Stuff, Weird Names

Nobody would ever really be keen on the idea of putting blood or tears on our lips, so Rain Cosmetics is really lucky that its new lip stain, Blood ($12), and gloss, Tears ($12), are so superlatively great. Blood is a deep pink gel-based stain that's like a thicker, less-red Benetint. The lasting power is excellent when applied on the lips, but it works well on cheeks, too - even though it's not strictly for use as rouge. And thanks to the gel texture, the product spreads on wonderfully, allowing you plenty of time to blend away splotches.

Tears, the less eccentrically named of the two, is perfect if you're tired of supershiny, goopy gloss that makes you look like you just freshened up your makeup before eighth grade science class. Tears isn't sticky, the shine is so subtle that it almost looks more like balm, and it goes over stain or lipstick beautifully. So don't judge a gloss by its slightly creepy packaging; this stuff is much better than your average bodily fluid.

Have you ever heard that you should match your lip color to your cheek color? While the look does work and most certainly has its place, Kate McCarthy, Glo Minerals' national makeup artist, advises that it's time to break the old-school rule. "If you're looking at fashion shows right now, they're going all out - really bold cheeks, really bold lips, and really bold eyes," she says. "None of it seems to match, but it still looks good."

And when it comes to choosing a lipstick, gloss, or liner, go with this general principle to guide you: base your selection off your natural lip color. "For example, my lips are more on the pink side," McCarthy explains. "They're a stronger pink, so I tend to stay in the pink family and the peach family." But if you have lips that skew more red in color, you're a lucky one, because you can pull off a great red or orange. And for fleshier skin tones, opt for mauves or anything that has a brown undertone.

Poppy King Designs a Lipstick Line For Boots No7

With a successful lipstick line under her belt, as well as collaborations with Kate Spade and J.Crew, Poppy King is reminding us why she calls herself the Lipstick Queen. This month, Boots No7 will release a collection - The Magic of Lipstick - which King created for the company. Almost a year in the making, it consists of seven lipsticks and seven matching glosses. "The texture is moisturizing, yet has traction," King explains.

King, who has been a fan of Boots No7 for years, says she discovered the brand during her travels to London. While designing the line, King went through the company's archives, drawing much of her inspiration from the 1930s. "I wanted to use the silver that was on the Boots packaging then, and the shape and styling of the number '7' reminiscent of the '30s," she said. She also hoped to capture the era's enthusiasm for lip color. "I wanted to ease women back into lipstick - the Boots' customer needs something that works, something that is elegant, and something that is low maintenance."
