Reese Witherspoon Talks About Her New Fragrance

What do you get when one of Hollywood's most popular and powerful A-listers releases a fragrance? In Bloom ($34), the new Avon scent from Reese Witherspoon. Over the course of two years, the self-proclaimed girly-girl was involved in practically all aspects of the perfume-making experience, from helping to select the fragrance's notes to providing input on her inaugural scent's packaging, bottle design, and name. Beauty Byte: Reese Enters the Bloomin' Fragrance Biz

When it comes to fragrance launches this year, Avon has had quite the star-studded journey. Since last June, the impressively affordable cosmetics brand has launched Christian Lacroix Noir, Courteney Cox-endorsed Spotlight, and Patrick Dempsey's Unscripted. And now, as a two-year Avon global ambassador, it's Reese Witherspoon's turn.

The new fragrance, dubbed In Bloom by Reese Witherspoon ($34 to $59), makes its official debut in November, and features top notes of Georgia peach, crisp greens, and tea leaves; middle notes of magnolias, star gardenia, and night-blooming jasmine; and base notes of cashmere woods, hypnotic florals, and amber wood crystals. Packaged in a rounded glass bottle with an elaborate flower atop, the Oscar-winning actress chose to monogram the champagne-toned box and limited-edition silver charmed bottle. "I monogram everything because I am Southern - it’s a compulsion," she quipped to WWD.

Inspiration behind the sensual, romantic scent came from Reese's Southern background and her 9-year-old daughter Ava's opinion. "I asked her which one smelled most like me." She also drew upon other family memories for insight. "Definitely gardenia is a big thing for me because my father - every Mother’s Day or on my birthday - would buy small bouquets or corsages for my mother and I," she added. "I thought you just pick a fragrance and it’s easy. But there were all these different levels of creating a scent that were new to me, but really fun and exciting," said the fun-loving star. How-To: Reese Witherspoon's Hair at the 2009 Oscars

Just one night, yet two hairstyles for Reese Witherspoon! I enjoyed seeing past winners say a few words directly to the nominees this year even though, as Buzz said, it took a little longer than usual. Since she's already picked up an Oscar for her role in Walk the Line, Reese took the stage to help present the Best Director award.Hairstylist Mark Townsend happened to be present for her fitting of the Rodarte dress, and was inspired by the casual way she pulled back her hair to try it on. He created an elegant updo based on her impromptu dressing room twist, then later gave her lovely waves for the afterparties. See tips for both looks when you read more.

Ceremony:

First, apply Matrix Vavoom Height of Glam volumizing foam to damp hair.
Blow dry with a large, round Spornette mixed bristle brush and an FHI Heat Nano Pro 2000 hairdryer.
When dry, give the hair shine and "piecey-ness" with a sculpting product (like Matrix Biolage Molding Soufflé).
Next, gather the hair in a ponytail at the nape of the neck and twist into a textured knot. Use bobby pins to secure the knot, hairpins to shape the knot into an uneven chignon with lots of loose pieces, and then add light hold hairspray to finish.

Afterparty:

After a quick brush out, spray three-inch sections of hair with Vavoom Gold Head Iron-In Control before wrapping around a two-inch curling iron.
Pull the side pieces back with bobby pins, letting a few hairs around the face fall out for softness.
Complete the look with ShapeMaker hairspray.

Trend Alert: Naked Nails

It used to be that if you wanted to be considered glamorous and put-together, you wouldn't dare walk out of the house with chipped nail polish - and now chipped nails have become a trend. Now, some celebs are taking it to the next level. With all of their wealth and fame, they gaily roam the streets with naked nails.

My guess is that they're either in between manicures, or they're enjoying a break from the stress of putting on and taking off polish. Then again, with a good buffing, naked nails can look shiny and healthy - much more chic than chipped polish, I think. Do you hope this trend sticks around, or do you prefer a more "finished" look?
