Trend Alert: Rockabilly Hair

Rockabilly hair can best be described as a modern take on the bun-but it has more height, added texture, and just a little bit of edginess, since the look doesn't require every single hair to be in place.

Lately we've been talking about the spring 2008 looks, but we shouldn't forget that the first day of fall is actually tomorrow! This chic hairstyle appeared on the runways of Nathan Jenden and Billl Blass (see the gallery) for the Fall 2007 New York Fashion Shows and is appropriate for day or night.

Step 1: Use a little bit of Phytovolume Actif Maximizing Volume Spray while blow-drying hair to give it shape and height.
Step 2: Next, Isolate a section of hair at the top and spritz it with a firm hold hairspray.
Step 3: Then, wrap hair around four hot rollers and let it set for fifteen minutes.
Step 4: Next, pull the rest of your hair into a ponytail and secure with a hair elastic (choose a color closest to your own hair color).
Step 5: Let the curls flop to one side and secure the ponytail to the top your head with bobby pins. Overlap the curls, pin them and then mist your entire head again with hairspray.

2009 Fall New York Fashion Week: Vena Cava

Every season, the cool downtown girls head to Vena Cava to see what they'll want to wear to their art-gallery jobs. This time around, the collection featured motorcycle jackets, high-waisted jeans, and dyed leggings.

Working off of the clothing's dark color palette, makeup artist Vincent Longo - working with Beauty.com - created a simple but striking makeup look: a shock of orange at the lashline. "It's a contrast to the collection," he said, "to give life to the dark tones." While the skin was matte, lips had a creamy finish thanks to his Velvet Riche lipstick in Hush Delight.

And the hair? This season's Vena Cava girl, said the lead stylist Ted Gibson for Beauty.com, is hip but not too crazy. "She's the girl who danced all night and slicked some gel in her hair the next morning," he said of his inspiration. To get the rockabilly-chic look, he pushed hair back from the sides for a fun, devil-may-care style. Check it out in these pictures:

If you've ever wanted to mimic Dita Von Teese's sleek, shiny waves, here's an authentic product line to help you.

Now, Murray's isn't stuff you'd want to use every day, unless you're willing to spend the considerable time it takes to get the stuff out of your hair. Pomade, by definition, is meant to stay in the hair, and removing it involves a hefty amount of clarifying shampoo. But if you want a special retro 'do, this stuff does the trick. You might want to try Hair-Glo ($3), which adds shine and lets you slick your hair into a sleek retro style.
