Avril Lavigne Designs a Nail Strips Collection For Sally Hansen

She's known for her pop-punk hits and even as a clothing designer, and now Avril Lavigne has channeled her creative spirit into nail art. Starting this April, the singer will launch a limited-edition collection with the Sally Hansen Salon Effects brand. And in true Avril fashion, the polish strips ($10 each), which will feature 12 different designs, will include rocker-chic patterns like tiny skulls and leopard print.

"It's supercool because the designs that I came up with are my personal style and vibe - they're rock 'n' roll and fun and bright and colorful. You have sparkles and little stars - they are cute," Avril explained in an interview with WWD. Avril has already ventured into the beauty business with the launches of fragrances Black Star, Wild Rose, and Forbidden Rose, so what can we expect next from the star? Avril quipped, "I think it would be cool to do hair color."

Photographers are all abuzz about Lytro, a forthcoming light field camera that allows you to change the focal point of any given photo - after it's already been taken. If it lives up to its potential, it's pretty much going to revolutionize digital photography. (You know how you get those photos that would be perfect if only they weren't so fuzzy? Lytro lets you fix that.) Since I am an amateur photographer who messes up her focus all the time, this is very exciting.

What does this have to do with beauty? Well, Lytro photographer Eric Cheng just released a new set of photographs that show off the camera's abilities, and they star none other than model Coco Rocha. Sally Hansen recently launched Nail Effects, precut, stick-on nails in varying colors and patterns. But these aren't your ordinary hard and plasticy fake nails. Nope, these adhesives are thin and stretchy, molding to the shape of your natural nail. And after admiring the eye-catching Misbehaved pattern ($9) on a DailyCandy writer, I knew I had to give them a try.

At around $9 a pop, depending where you get them, these temporary nail designs aren't exactly cheap. They're supposed to last for up to 10 days, so check back later for my report on the eventual wear and tear. Prabal Gurung Designed Six Nail Polishes For Spring

Cool news from today's Prabal Gurung show: the buzzed-about designer is teaming with Sally Hansen for a line of nail polish. The six limited-edition shades, made to complement his new collection, debuted today. "Prabal likes to have simple accents," said master manicurist Jin Soon Choi. "He doesn't want to overdo it." For the show, she painted nails with Without a Stitch (a nude shimmer) followed by a thin stripe of Casting Call (a strawberry mango shade). "It's very sophisticated and modern," she said. Look for the six limited-edition shades to debut in spring 2011.

I hate wearing shoes. Seriously. If I could be barefoot all the time, I would be a happy girl. Heck, I could be the Barefoot Bandit's girlfriend if it wasn't for the whole "stealing" thing he had going on. Of course, running around barefoot doesn't make for the prettiest of tootsies. In fact, it makes my heels pretty dang callusy and hard.
