Trend Alert: Bubble Gum Pink Lips

Lately, I've noticed various stars out and about sporting similar shades of pink lips. It's a little bit playful and a little bit retro, but it's sure got snap - just like bubble gum itself. Whether it's a matte finish like Drew Barrymore and Salma Hayek, or it's got some shine à la Rihanna and Lindsay Price, one thing's for sure, this look is hubba hubba - er, bubba.

How-To: Salma Hayek's Makeup at the Golden Globes

You were applauding Salma Hayek's makeup and hair last night, and I've got to agree. The sexy 42-year-old (can you believe it?) mixed old Hollywood with a contemporary twist for this sophisticated look - one that was directly inspired by her Dior dress.

Nars makeup artist Matthew Vanleeuwen said, “I made her eyes the focus and added a lot of rich, jewel skin tones and fresh color to her cheeks and lips. Her look was very classic and chic, with some modern textures.” Wowza. To see what shades and techniques he chose, read more.

Eyes: To the top and bottom lash line, Vanleeuwen applied Single Eye Shadow in China Blue ($22). Next, Cream Eye Shadow in Corfu ($21) was used as a base, all over the eyelid. The golden champagne side of the Duo Eye Shadow in Alhambra ($32) was applied to the lid, and Single Eye Sadow in Bengali ($22) was placed all along the lash line and smudged. For a smoky effect, he went back over the lash line with Single Eye Shadow in Night Clubbing ($22). Two coats of black mascara finished off the look.
Lips: Vanleeuewen used Lipliner Pencil in Marnie ($20) and Tutti Frutti Lipstick ($24).
Blush: He applied Blush in Desire ($24) to the apple of cheeks and Bronzer Powder in Laguna ($29) from the back of cheekbone forward.

2009 Golden Globe Awards: Salma Hayek

Hot mama! Salma Hayek seems to keep getting better with age, and the look at the Golden Globes merely proves that point. Tear your eyes away from those sparkling earrings for a moment to look at the whole picture. Salma's pulled-back hair is simple, chic, and modern; her makeup is polished but not harsh. I think it's both classic and contemporary. Do you?

Try These Thick Headbands For a Quick Fivehead Fix

We've all got our insecurities and, while I consider myself to be confident, there are times when I look in the mirror and feel faced with simply too much face. The battle with my forehead leads to some bang-up experimentation for that extra surface area.

While I agree that bangs can change your look for less commitment than a full cut, picking up a headband comes with even less liability. An alternative to the thinner, hippie-style trend, you can hide your bangs or face space with wide bands like this pretty beaded accessory on Salma Hayek or other headbands, scarves, and headpieces in the widget below.

Love It or Hate It? Salma Hayek's Wrap-Around Braid

Since this isn't a look you'd usually find on Salma Hayek, I just had to point it out. She usually goes for an ethereal goddess or a sophisticated and sexy look, not something quite this constructed. For the record, I can not believe how big braids are this Summer, can you? What do you think of this milkmaid-braid hairstyle on Salma? Do you like it or would you have preferred to see her hair styled another way?

You already read your daily horoscope on DearSugar, right? Well, I've got a little astrology treat for you here on BellaSugar, too. Welcome to another installment of a 12-part series about beauty for your zodiac sign. I'll profile each sign as it comes, giving hair and makeup tips to bring out your best look. You can often recognize a Virgo by an innocent-looking baby face, or by a helpful and sweet disposition. They're mainly known for being detail-oriented, which works both for and against them. On the plus side, they have skill and patience-which explains why Virgo Salma Hayek's looks flawless even when she's going for a low-key look. On the negative side, a perfectionist streak makes some Virgos too critical, focusing on "flaws" that nobody else notices. (You know your friend who's always freaking out about the "huge zit" that you can't even see? Ask her if she's a Virgo.)

What works if you're a Virgo Virgo is an earth sign, which means you look great in neutral colors that bring out your natural beauty. But don't go so natural that you look plain. If you choose a barely-there eye look, balance it with a bold lip (or vice versa). With hair, you can look glamorous by amplifying what you've got. Look at Beyonce, for instance: When she lets her curls out, she's stunning whether she's in a designer gown or jeans and a tee.

What doesn't work Brash, out-there, "look at me!" makeup and hair. Additionally, it's important to know what's age-appropriate. Watch out for certain trends that could be too juvenile, and you should be fine.

Beauty Mark It Results: Because You Cannes, Cannes, Cannes

The 61st Annual Cannes Film Festival has been underway for a week, and the stars are continuing to shine. This year at the festival, Salma Hayek wore a wrap-around braid, Angelina did a one-sided, half-up hairdo, and Natalie Portman went with a curly updo. But that's just the hair. I'm also curious about what's happening in the makeup realm, and that's exactly the question I posed to you last week: What beauty items would you rock on the red carpet?

Team member musewings picked one of the more obvious choices, but who can disagree that the Nars Multiple ($37) in color Cannes isn't an appropriate choice? Musewings said she'd rub the rosy bronze shade lightly "over [her] cheeks for a subtle glow." She sounds Cannes-ready to me.
