Is Sarah Palin Overpaying Her Makeup Artist?

Man, I'm in the wrong line of business. The McCain campaign paid Sarah Palin's makeup artist $22,800 for the first two weeks of October. According to campaign records, Emmy-winning makeup artist Amy Strozzi was the highest-paid individual in the campaign during that fortnight. (Palin's hairstylist earned $10,000 - no word yet on how much Michelle Obama's hairstylist earns.)

Now, I know makeup artists can demand high salaries - but coupled with Palin's $150,000 wardrobe, that's a lot of cash spent to look so good. (And, no matter what your political stance, you have to admit, Palin does look polished.) Do you think the makeup artist's fees are fair, or is the campaign overpaying her?

Sarah Palin Inspires a New Lipstick Color

This weekend, Tina Fey killed it once again with her hilarious Sarah Palin impersonation. (Seriously, "Bono, the king of Ireland?" Haw!) But that wasn't the only bit of recent election fluff to involve Governor Palin.

The Alchemist's Apprentice, a New Mexico-based seller of natural cosmetics, has created a lipstick shade in honor of the hockey mom turned VP candidate. Power Pink, a rosy shade with a bit of glimmer, is a tribute to the Alaska governor. "Now women can wear the same lipstick as this maverick mom and support her at the same time," says Pamela Cronan-Maddox, who created Power Pink.

Fact-checking time: That isn't exactly true, as Palin herself does not wear this particular lipstick shade. But for each lipstick purchased, The Alchemist's Apprentice will donate one dollar to the McCain/Palin campaign. And of course, there's also Pit Bull Mom brand lipstick ($9.99, available in Pale N' Pink and Republican Red. Where are the beauty buys for Democrats and independents, you ask? So far, nothing's turned up, but I'll try to find ya some and I'll bring them to ya.

I've posted about InStyle's Hollywood Hair Makeover tool before, but now it could be called the Washington Hair Makeover, too. It's pretty easy to do: You just upload a photo of yourself, then select a Washingtonian hairstyle for a whirl.

Because I am so into politics that I break out goofy impressions (it's true; ask the Citizen girls), this tool is endlessly entertaining to me. Is it the same for you, my friends?

Each year, there are several It costumes from which to choose. Last year it was Sarah Palin, the year before that it was Amy Winehouse, and 10 years ago, I seem to recall lots of Monica Lewinskys strutting their stuff. This year, if I had to wager, I'd say we'll be seeing several Kate Gosselins, Anna Wintours, Michael Jacksons, and Rihannas - just to name a few.
