Tough-girl style is on the rise, as evidenced by the small but growing number of women who are pounding their heads against a Wahl. Using clippers to shave half of their hair off, they're channeling a look that's equal parts Tank Girl, Vanilla Ice, and punk-rock scene queen Rihanna, who just lopped off half of her hair, leaving some volume up top. Before her, Cassie shaved some designs into her shorn hair. London model Alice Dellal arguably revived the half-and-half hair trend last year, and now that official Bella girl crush Kate Lanphear has cropped her coif, it's only a matter of time before others follow suit.

Miss Virginia Wants You to Help Shave Her Head

Bald is beautiful, according to Miss Virginia Tara Wheeler. The pageant queen is trying to raise $500,000 for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, a nonprofit that raises funds for childrens' cancer research. Troubled by how little girls were teased about losing their hair due to chemotherapy treatments, she hopes that visiting children with a shaved head will provide support and solidarity. If she reaches her goal by April 11, she'll bust out the buzz cut. (If she doesn't reach the goal, and she doesn't shave her head, I call foul.)

Twenty-five percent of the money raised will go to the Children's Miracle Network and the Miss Virginia Scholarship Fund, but the rest goes to St. Baldrick's. As of yesterday afternoon, she had raised only 3% of her fundraising goal. So if you like the idea of seeing a beauty queen shave her hair off, donate online.

People are sure to be gossiping about Blake Lively's red carpet hair tomorrow. She stood out from the crowd with this long, tight braided ponytail that reached all the way down her back. She's an incredibly beautiful woman, and she would probably look good with her head shaved, but what do you think about this braid? Is it the beginning of a trend, or a fashion misstep?

Reader Review of the Day: Olay Body Wash Plus Body Butter Ribbons

Olay Body Wash ($5.29) was a staple of my college dorm bathroom in the Winter, when no amount of lotion could keep the indoor heat from drying my skin out. I haven't used it in a couple years now that I live in more temperate climes, but the most recent version incorporates body butter, and it sounds just as good as the original. Reader hippiecowgirl wrote a nice review of it, so I'll let her take it from here:

"It's really creamy and moisturizing. I used it as a body cleanser and a shaving cream at the same time. My skin felt fresh, and I got a close shave, so it definitely serves both purposes well. The only thing I didn't care for was the perfumey scent. I plan to purchase this again in the winter when my skin is extra dry."

'Tis the season for more frequent shaving, so when loyal reader ImmaDiva said that BIC Soleil Bella Four Blades Shaver ($7) was amazing, I took notice. That, and I can't resist another "bella." Here's what ImmaDiva thought about this new product:

They have four blades opposed to three, so I get a closer shave and the blades are widely spaced so they never clog. Water flows freely through each blade so the blades have lasted longer than my usual disposables. The pivoting head also helps in providing a closer shave.

Would You Get Your Swerve On?

I once briefly dated an mall-emo boy who was very particular about the hair on his head - had to be dark and just so as it fell into his eyes - but who was even more particular about his body hair. As in, he couldn't stand having any. Homeboy shaved his legs and his arms, and he was almost always a bit stubbly.

It kind of weirded me out.

So, I thought of him as soon as I saw The Swerve, touted as the "first full-body groomtool." It's a razor meant to help dudes defuzz their hairy backs and chests. The ergonomic design is supposed to be easier to maneuver than a normal razor, which makes me think that it could be useful for my own leg-shaving needs. Then again, my regular razor does the job, so perhaps I'll leave the Swervin' to Mr. No-hair. Would you try this out, or would you foist it upon a man in your life?

What Does Your Hair Tell About You?

Once a hair comes out of the scalp, it's dead. Delightful thought, no? Even though hair outside of the scalp is no longer living, scientists can still tell a lot about a person just from analyzing his or her strands.

Your hair, which grows about a half-inch per month, comes out from living follicles from within the scalp, so whatever you put in your body becomes pretty much trapped "evidence" within. For an accurate drug analysis, for instance, it's typical for scientists to look at about one and a half inches of hair (about 90 days' worth) towards the newer growth. That's why hardcore drug users often shave their heads - to avoid detection.

Hair analysis can also tell approximately where you live, your exposure to chemicals, your DNA information, if you drink, and your eating habits. One thing hair can't reveal? Surprisingly, it can't tell your gender, according to the FBI - and the g-men should know. Did you ever think that your hair was like a living diary? Turns out, it is.
