Try Kerry Washington's Smoky Blue Sundance Makeup Look

If you love a smoky eye but are looking for a new twist on it, let Kerry Washington be your inspiration. At the premiere of The Details at the Sundance Film Festival yesterday, Kerry's perfectly smudged eye makeup was accentuated with shimmery blue eye color, from lower lashes to upper lids. A deep coral blush and neutral pink lipstick stood up to the intensity of the eyes without competing with them. To get the look, start by waterlining the inner lash lines with a waterproof black eyeliner. Next, line the entire lash lines with a royal blue liner, smudge to blend, and apply a bright, shimmery blue shadow to the lids. Finish off with lots of black mascara. For even more smokiness, lightly tap on some charcoal or deep brown shadow under the lower lashes and along the creases.

Recently, OnSugar blogger Andrea Claire of Beauty & the Blog posted a beauty look she created for her daughter. Check out an excerpt below on how to get this silvery smoky eye:

Eyes:

Lids: Using a sponge-tip applicator, base with MAC Cosmetics Paint Pot in Blackground.
Crease: Staring straight into the mirror using the tip of a tapered contour brush for eyes, sweep a black shadow onto the crease. I used Face Atelier's Carbon eye shadow. Tip: Don't add a lot of pigment to your brush and keep the sweeping action going with a gentle hand, as it will blend nicely!
Liner: I lined on top of the shadow with Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink. Apply with a bent liner brush. It's best not to close your eyes so you can get right at your lash line as well as to see the angle for a little winging action on your line.
Inner corner: On the tear duct area, apply a reflective white/silver shadow using a pencil-tip brush which gives a precise application with easy blendability. I used Yaby Cosmetics' PP080. Little known makeup brush tip: If you hold your brush close to the tip, your application will be more heavy-handed than if you hold closer to the middle of the brush. Holding even further to the end of your brush, you get a light-handed application; great for blush and bronzers!
Finish your eye with your favorite mascara.
