What makes this look appropriate for daytime is that it's just enough color to make a statement, without going overboard - perfect for a wedding or formal event. Smoky eyes are always a go-to, but sometimes they can feel a bit heavy during warmer weathered months. For a lighter take on the look, check out Lake Bell's version of a subtly smoky eye, which she recently wore to an event in New York. What makes her eye makeup so pretty is the fact that the shades used are within the same color family, but with different textures and varying intensities. Easily re-create Lake's look on your own with a palette of purple shadows: a soft plum for the bottom lash lines, a light, shimmery lilac for the inner corners; and a rich eggplant for the outer creases. Top off with a touch of black liner and mascara for depth.
