We already know that Solange Knowles is one brave woman. It takes a lot of guts to take your hair from well beyond shoulder length to practically shaved off. I think the ultracropped style is really working for her, though. Seeing that Solange is not a shy one when it comes to experimenting with her beauty options, leave it to the singer to make tonight's red carpet appearance a dramatic one. Trend Alert: Poppin' Pink Nails

As the end of the season approaches, you might expect wine-toned polishes, deeper hues of blue, or smoky taupes making an entrance. But with the warm weather still going strong, it looks like bright, fun colors haven't fallen by the wayside just yet. After catching a glimpse of Kim Kardashian wearing vivid, bubble-gum pink a few days ago, I was reminded of other ladies sporting some seriously pink nails in recent weeks.

The eyepatch trend has been around for a while (hello, Jack Sparrow) but these stars take it to the next level. Lindsay wears a pure platinum patch that simply shines, while Lady Gaga sweetens the deal with a red heart. As for Solange, she goes the classic route with the tried-and-true black patch. Trend Alert: Glitzy Black Nails

What's black, sometimes white, and glitzed all over? It's the black nail polish trend taken up a notch, that's what. I've spotted different stars putting a new spin on this trend, which - let's face it - had been getting a little stale. In lieu of a straight up manicure with black polish, these celebrities have taken it up several notches with their own unique embellishments (see them up close after the jump).

Paris Hilton has been sporting a black and white French manicure; Solange Knowles opted for some geometric gold patterns at an event last month; and singer Keri Hilson chose a black with silver stripes design at her launch party. What do you think of this look? Bring it on or not?

Love It or Hate It? Solange Knowles Has Fine Feathered Friends

At the Emporio Armani presentation in Milan, Solange Knowles wore her hair curly with a feathery hair accessory. Solange has certainly taken beauty risks in the past, which is admirable - to an extent. Hair accessories with feathers have certainly been growing in popularity and can impart a cool, flapper vibe. Love It or Hate It? Solange Knowles's MTV VMAs Look

Solange Knowles went with a completely different look than the one she was sporting on Friday at the Fashion Rocks event in New York. There she wore a subdued side-swept updo (that you all weren't feeling), but at the VMAs she went with a head full of spiral curls. And, I, for one, am loving the transformation. It's very reminiscent of Diana Ross in the '70s, but that definitely goes with the image the younger Knowles sister is currently trying to convey. Add to that a deep berry lip that matches her dress and you've got a look that's both retro and current. You likey?

Love It or Hate It? Solange Knowles's Fashion Rocks Look

With a bedazzle-y mesh (or is it fur? or feathers?) shrug, Solange Knowles had to keep it a little more toned down in the makeup department. It looks like she's joined the in-crowd with her side-swept updo and cascading waved fringe. And check out those eyes - long and separated lashes give further boost to the style. A brilliantly pink gloss makes her high-fashion look complete. Tell me what you think - are you liking Solange's hair and makeup?

How-To: Solange Knowles's Polka-Dot Manicure

Call me crazy, but Solange Knowles is rapidly becoming one of my favorite celebrities - and not just because of her famous big sister. Her music is catchy, and she seems content letting big sister B be the pop superstar of the family. Plus, she's willing to take some risks with her style. Case in point: This polka-dot manicure.

If you want to recreate Solange's nails at home, here's what you'll need:

Black nail polish (try Sinful Colors [$1.99] in Black on Black)
White nail polish (like Sephora by OPI [$9] in A-ha! Moment
Top coat and base coat
Wooden toothpicks

After painting nails with a base coat, paint them with black or white polish. (For the white polish, you'll need two coats.) Then, dip a toothpick into the opposite color. Carefully place a drop of the polish on your nail, repeating until you have the pattern you want. Let nails dry for up to 30 minutes, then seal with a top coat. Easy!

Don't just think of Solange Knowles as Beyoncé's little sister. She has her own thing going on - witness this bouncy, '60s-inspired video - and I love how her hair is shiny and curly. With that said: Whoa, that's a lot of flower on her head. I'm all for wild accessories, but this goes a little far for my tastes. What do you think? Hit or miss?
