2009 Fall New York Fashion Week: Vena Cava

Every season, the cool downtown girls head to Vena Cava to see what they'll want to wear to their art-gallery jobs. This time around, the collection featured motorcycle jackets, high-waisted jeans, and dyed leggings.

Working off of the clothing's dark color palette, makeup artist Vincent Longo - working with Beauty.com - created a simple but striking makeup look: a shock of orange at the lashline. "It's a contrast to the collection," he said, "to give life to the dark tones." While the skin was matte, lips had a creamy finish thanks to his Velvet Riche lipstick in Hush Delight.

And the hair? This season's Vena Cava girl, said the lead stylist Ted Gibson for Beauty.com, is hip but not too crazy. "She's the girl who danced all night and slicked some gel in her hair the next morning," he said of his inspiration. To get the rockabilly-chic look, he pushed hair back from the sides for a fun, devil-may-care style. Check it out in these pictures:

Beauty Mark It Results: Beauty of Olympic Proportions

Have you been watching the Olympics? After all, one billion people did tune in to the opening ceremony - and what a dazzling spectacle it was.

So, after thinking about all of the flipping, gliding, jumping, and kicking that goes down at such a monumental event, I asked you for some beauty product suggestions appropriate for an athlete. Since one beauty fan in particular went all out on this Beauty Mark It challenge, I have to give the gold medal to ohbaby for her contributions.

Product Review: Ted Gibson Brazen Brown Shampoo and Conditioner

Ever since my shiny-hair disaster a month ago, I've been lamenting the loss of color in my hair. Conditioning treatments have eliminated the rough texture, but I wasn't sure what to do about the dull hue. (I didn't want to have it professionally colored.)

Enter Ted Gibson Brazen Brown shampoo ($36) and conditioner ($36). Both of these products promise to moisturize hair while imbuing it with rich brown tones. They contain temporary hair color meant to boost the color between salon visits, or just to intensify the hair's natural shade. (It's also available for blonde and red hair.) There isn't much of a scent to either the shampoo or the conditioner, and both are fairly concentrated. For my shoulder-length hair, I needed only about a quarter-sized dollop - so while the products aren't cheap, they seem like they'll last a long time. (I'm all about cost per use.) After using the shampoo and conditioner, I blow dried my hair and was rewarded with a richer brown color. It wasn't drastic enough to make anyone think that I'd colored my hair, but it was noticeably shinier and more robust.

I really love this duo because it gave my hair a boost of color, without having to deal with the long-term commitment of permanent dye. Plus, my hair is soft without feeling weighed down. While this shampoo and conditioner are definitely not budget buys, I think they're worth the price if your hair color is blah or uneven. As long as it keeps my hair looking this pretty, I'll happily keep it on my must-buy list.

Bellissima! Ted Gibson Bandostick

Sometimes the old stuff is still the best! Bandostick ($25–$65) is the first product that hair gurus Ted Gibson and Jason Backe ever created. These sleek hair sticks have a hole at the top where a rubber band is threaded through so that you can easily create chignons, french twists and buns that stay in place all day.

The testimonials I've read are fantastic, and this product is very popular in Ted's salon. So far the only complaint is that eventually when the elastic stretches out, you've really got to stretch it to the max so that you can get it around your hair two or three times if necessary.

Fortunately for those of us on a budget, Ted has also created a less expensive version of his designer hair stick. Working with drugstore brand Scunci, he has launched the Hairdostick ($3). New Product Alert: Tame It Shine Lotion

New from Ted Gibson is a styling product for hair called Tame It Shine Lotion. Gotta love the cute names he always comes up with. This inventive product helps calm frizz and fly-aways as well as liven up lackluster locks without weighing hair down.

The idea was inspired by the process of making red wine, so the formula contains a special merlot complex that hydrates hair, adds shine, texture and fluid movement. Also, thanks to the built in humidity shield, now hair won't fall limp in the heat either. It is made from all natural extracts blended together in a featherweight, silky smooth cream and sells for $31. I haven't tried it, but I love Ted's stuff, so it's likely just a matter of time...

The angled bob, as shown on Jenny McCarthy, is a chic, of-the-moment 'do that flatters many face shapes. It's so easy to wear, and it's surprisingly easy to maintain.
Plum nail polish is great for this transition from summer to fall. Darker shades will be huge this fall, but if you're looking for a way to ease into it, try Maybelline Salon Expert. I love the shade Bitten Plum, and it can be yours for less than five bucks.
Coco Mademoiselle is going to be everywhere, thanks to a push from Chanel. Fortunately, it's a lovely scent that I've recently rediscovered. Expect to smell a lot more of it...
Bare Escentuals lipcolor in Rose Crepe ($15) is a limited-edition shade exclusive to Sephora. It's a soft rose color that's a stronger than your naked lip color, but not so intense that it shouts out at people. It's also a natural choice: it has no artificial dyes and is colored with minerals.
Too Faced has a limited-edition color palette ($28) that was devised with fashion brand Miss Sixty. What better way to celebrate Fashion Week? Plus, for those of you who caught Molly talking about PopSugar on CNN, I've got a secret for you: This is the palette that we used to make her camera-ready. It's Pop-, Fab-, and Bella-approved!
Ted Gibson Goodnite isn't necessarily a must-have. Considering its $200 price tag, it's really a "wish-I-could-have." It's a luxurious serum that moisturizes dry, damaged hair and balances both dry and oily scalps. If I win the lottery, I'm going to try it out.

I love it when stylists I love come out with products that I love! The friendly and fabulous hair guru Ted Gibson has just released a brand-new heated hair-styling tool called the Ted Gibson Professional Flat Iron ($225). This fabulous straightener is worth every penny (and I totally understand this is a lot of pennies)! According to the company's press release, Gibson believes:

"Styling tools are a stylist's life blood; that they are work-horses and they must be maximum quality. And, of course, they are also very important for most women at home as they try to recreate what we do in the chair.”

Ted has been searching for a fab flat iron for quite some time. He was repeatedly let down by the the tools he was testing out and decided that if he wanted the best, he would have to make it himself.

The Ted Gibson Professional Flat Iron is made from ceramic tourmaline and heats anywhere from 140 to 450 degrees. What's great is that the iron includes an automatic sense control system, so that you don't fry your hair. You can now create straight hair or curls, and - this is big - it can be used on damp or dry hair!
