Grown from the fertile minds of Ashton Kutcher and Tyra Banks, the show appears to be a typical beauty competition - at least, that's what the contestants think. While they preen and brag about their looks, hidden cameras are recording their every action. How Old Were You When You First Went to the Spa?

The most recent story focusing on girls heading to the beauty parlor at younger and younger ages comes to us today from Lebanon, where requests for chocolate facials and purple manicures are becoming the norm. "It's not about spoiling our children," Maya Hilal, owner of Beirut's Spa-Tacular, told the AFP. "It's a matter of maintaining their cleanliness. It's hygiene. It's feeling good about yourself," she added. In another Lebanese salon across town, the clientele, some as young as four, get blue and pink manicures in the colorfully decorated setting, all while wearing their pink robes and glittery eye shadow. But how young is too young? While I dabbled with toy makeup and kiddy nail polish in my youth, I didn't have my first true spa experience until well into my twenties. What about you?

Florence Griffith-Joyner, or Flo Jo, as most people know her, still holds the world record for the 100 and 200 meter dash 20 years after she last competed and 10 years after her untimely death at age 38. Although rumors of steroid use began to swirl after her stunning 1988 Olympic victories, and she retired only a year before steroid testing was to be implemented, the claims against her were never substantiated, and her records remain untarnished.

Besides being one of the fastest people ever to live, she was also a true beauty icon, an African-American woman with an athletic body and those signature long, perfect nails in a time when the first supermodels were emerging and the "right" look excluded most women of color and anyone who wasn't shaped like a very slender hourglass. She's a beloved figure for her sharp sense of style and work in the community, and she even had her own Barbie doll, outfitted in one of her awesomely '80s one-legged track unitards. Let's hope her records stand for a good, long time.

Even though it's the season of shorties, last night's episode was less about height (or lack thereof) and more about smize. You read that right, not size, smize. "What exactly is smize," you ask? Well, in true Tyra fashion, it's a new word that's she's created to represent smiling with your eyes. Beyond that, there was just enough campiness to keep last night's episode interesting (I mean super smize); and two models were eliminated, so there was definitely drama. Here's another one for the annals of Lady Gaga's wildest looks: pin-curled pink and blond hair, masses of glittery black eye shadow, and half a Phantom of the Opera mask, topped off with a big ol' Victorian hat. She clearly loves to have fun with her image, and I applaud her willingness to experiment, but what do you think? Is she a true beauty rebel, or does she look like she's in a fancy traction collar after her car collided with a glitter truck?
