2009 Fall New York Fashion Week: Vena Cava

Every season, the cool downtown girls head to Vena Cava to see what they'll want to wear to their art-gallery jobs. This time around, the collection featured motorcycle jackets, high-waisted jeans, and dyed leggings.

Working off of the clothing's dark color palette, makeup artist Vincent Longo - working with Beauty.com - created a simple but striking makeup look: a shock of orange at the lashline. "It's a contrast to the collection," he said, "to give life to the dark tones." While the skin was matte, lips had a creamy finish thanks to his Velvet Riche lipstick in Hush Delight.

And the hair? This season's Vena Cava girl, said the lead stylist Ted Gibson for Beauty.com, is hip but not too crazy. "She's the girl who danced all night and slicked some gel in her hair the next morning," he said of his inspiration. It's the season for glowing, (faux) tan skin and with all of the products on the market right now, it's easier than ever to achieve that look. However, choosing the right product can be challenging, especially when two similar items such as Nars the Multiple in St. Barth's and Vincent Longo Hydro Stick in Gold Solare exist. Both are beautiful for your eyes, cheeks, and lips, both are light in color and texture, and both create a sexy-tanned illumination on the skin. New from Vincent Longo is a two-part Fall/Winter 2007 collection. Today, I wanted to introduce the first part of the range, Village Chic Night. The inspiration for the line is the eclecticism of New York's East Village, which served as the epicenter of '70s punk with an anything-goes kind of vibe. FACE: Apply something like this amazingly natural looking Vincent Longo Liquid Canvas Dew Finish Foundation SPF 15 in Natural over a touch of concealer to brighten any dark or red areas gives skin coverage and a dewy effect.
CHEEKS: Next, apply a peachy, coral or apricot color to your cheeks such as Nars Blush in Gilda. Glide the blush brush over the apples of your cheeks sweeping upwards toward your hairline. This matte coral powder shade gives a warm glow to golden, olive skin.
EYES: Since the eyes are the focus of this look, you can err on the side of dramatic if you wish. Product Review: Vincent Longo Diamond Lip Gloss

I just picked up Vincent Longo Diamond lip gloss last week, and honestly, it's turning me into a magpie. I keep pulling it out of my bag to show people how beautiful the shine is. Even my guy friends admitted that it was pretty. (Yes, I had to show it to them, too.)

The source of Diamond Lip Gloss's ridiculous gorgeousness is a formula that features minute reflective pearls to catch and reflect light. So not only is the pigmented gloss itself shiny, it also has these microscopic glimmery bits. The look is shimmery, not sparkly, so you don't have to worry about looking like a disco dancer when you slick on the gloss.

I chose Rosewood Luster, which is a semi-sheer golden pink. If you like Nars Orgasm, you'll probably like this shade-the tones are similar but Rosewood Luster is more sheer. Alone, it's ideal for day wear, but it also looks great at night when layered on top of a pink lipstick. It's available online for $22, which is a little pricey (and is why I take a star off). But I have a feeling you'll wind up using it so often that justifying the cost won't take much work.

These new Vincent Longo Pearlessence Gel Stains ($22.50) are slightly different from the other cheek tints on the market because they are infused with shimmer. They are also water-resistant and sweat-proof which makes them perfect for beach beauty!

They are truly long-lasting, they give you a natural-looking glow and they can be used as both a cheek or a lip stain. That's all great, but the only issue I have is that you have to work quickly to blend before they dry. Once the color sets, you're pretty much stuck with it all day. My advice is to apply to one cheek at a time and start off lightly, since you can always add more.

The stains are available in three colors:

Bellini Love: warm, shimmery pink
Dolceacqua: shimmery plum
Fresh Water Rose shimmery silver-plum

I recommend using Bellini Love while summer's still going strong, then going with one of the plum shades for fall. It's not too far away, you know!

Ooh La La Liquid Lipsticks, Part II

Welcome to Part II of Ooh La La Liquid Lipsticks. (You can read Part I here.) I really love the creamy feeling of liquid lipsticks. They go on like lip gloss - without all the gooey-ness - and though the color isn't sheer, it's still softer than an opaque lipstick. It's a perfect balance when you are in a hurry and you don't want to fuss with a liner, lipstick, and a gloss. Here are three more lippies for you to play with.

Takeaway Anti Gloss by Passport ($12) is an opaque brush-on lipstick that has the high shine of a lip gloss. It keeps your lips feeling soft and smooth all day and has a great kiwi and green tea scent. It is available in two shades: Uscita (Fuscia) and Way Out (Red).

Lip Shine by Maria B. Cosmetics ($16) is essentially a liquid lipstick. It has a luxurious, creamy consistency with extra shine. It is available in six nude-toned colors: Lola, Tango Me, Honey, Ibiza, Silk, and Drama Queen.

This amazing Liquid Lipstick For Lips by Vincent Longo ($23) has actually been discontinued, but you can still snag four shades if you hurry. I'm pretty bummed out that they've stopped production on this product, because I really adore the ultra-smooth texture.
