False Advertising? Sony Vaio P "Barely" Fits in Back Pocket

Tight squeeze, eh Sony? Some new promo pics of the new VAIO P Series Lifestyle PC have enraged some Japanese bloggers who are ashamed by the ad's unrealistic size portrayal.

Considering it is the world's lightest 8-inch notebook, it's not totally outlandish to assume it might be able to fit in the pocket of a pair of jeans. But then again, Jimmy Fallon could barely fit it in his jacket pocket, which leads to me believe a pair of my hip hugging jeans would definitely be out of the question. What do you think? Are you more ticked off that it's not small enough to carry in a pocket, or are you peeved that the ad is inaccurate?

Guinness Reaches a Tipping Point

If you've ever gone to a pub and ordered yourself a Guinness, you know that there's a bit of waiting involved. The bartender starts to pour your beer, walks away, mixes up several other drinks, comes back pours some more, and eventually after a few cycles of this, you're presented with a lovely, perfect Guinness. It's definitely a good things come to those who wait sort of a thing.

Keeping that in mind, director Nicolai Fuglsig has created a new Guinness commercial called "Tipping Point" that is a large scale domino-style ripple effect ultimately leading to a finished gigantic pint of Guinness. The commercial cost a reported 10 million pounds - roughly 20 million dollars - and includes 6,000 dominoes, 10,000 books, 400 tires, 75 mirrors, 50 fridges, 45 wardrobes and six cars. With all those items, the domino chain takes quite a while to finish, but it is really fantastic when it does. I guess good things do come to those who wait.

I have to admit, I love the Mac vs. PC ads from Apple. Maybe it's my awkward crush on Apple Guy Justin Long, maybe it has something to do with all the funny remakes or maybe it's just clever advertising. The most recent web installment in the series features PC Guy (actor John Hodgman) showing Apple Guy a defective "Don't Give Up On Vista" sign. As a Mac girl I can't really speak for Vista because I've only used it a handful of times, but I have gotten less than favorable reviews from all my PC geek friends. What's your take?

Angelina's New Shiseido Commercial

Angelina has a new commercial, but unless you live in Japan, you won't see it on television. That's because Angie hawks products in Japan that she doesn't promote elsewhere (so do Brad and Orlando). She's appearing as the face Shiseido's new Integrate cosmetics line, which, unfortunately, isn't sold online. Take a look at the ad here, and let me know what you think. (Anyone speak or read Japanese? I'm dying to know what the marketing-speak says.)

Aside from the ad being really beautiful and featuring one of my favorite toys, the message reads:

Don’t Play With Your Health. Check Your Cholesterol. High blood cholesterol is one of the major causes of heart diseases and strokes. There are no symptoms. Testing is the only way to find out. Talk to your doctor.

Antibiotics Worthless Against Most Sinus Infections, Study Says

When suffering from the pain and pressure of a sinus infection, getting a prescription for antibiotics becomes priority number one. New research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association put this practice into question. Hold onto your tissues folks - scientists found antibiotics don't ease patients' symptoms any faster than placebo pills.

The small study included 166 adults with sinus infections; half were given a 10-day treatment of amoxicillin, a common antibiotic, while the other half were given a placebo. After 10 days, 78 percent of those on antibiotics and 80 percent of those taking the placebo said they felt better or no longer had symptoms. That's because less than two percent of sinus infections are bacterial and require antibiotics to clear up.

Since sinus infections make patients so miserable, doctors often prescribe antibiotics even when they aren't sure if the infection is viral or bacterial. If it's viral, the drugs won't help a lick, and the over-prescribing of antibiotics is contributing to the evolution of drug-resistant bacteria. Antibiotics should only be used when symptoms last over 10 days with no signs of improvement, or are accompanied by a fever.
