Bellissima! Clinique's Black Honey Has Three New Sister Shades

Although this lipstick range is part of the Fall 2007 Play In The Darks collection by Clinique, that I told you about in late July, these three new shades of Almost Lipstick struck a chord when I realized that they are renditions of the ever-popular cult favorite Black Honey Almost Lipstick. At first I thought there was just one new version out called Black Plum, but I have recently learned about two more shades in Black Raspberry (bright, sheer pink) and Black Raisin (deep wine).

There's a reason I am so excited. These aren't just any lipsticks, they could arguably be some of the best lipsticks ever created. They look intimidatingly dark in the tube, but they glide on smooth and the result is a shiny, sheer and clean stain-like finish.

The shades are universally flattering (I swear, they really are) and one of these skinny tubes is packed with color that will last you a long, long time. Each of the colors are sold separately for $14. How do you feel about these new versions of Black Honey being added to the elite Almost Lipstick sisterhood?

The new items won't be in stores until August, but I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at Clinique's new Play in the Darks collection. It's all about "blackened color," but not in a goth, I-hate-my-parents way. Instead, the hues are rich, saturated and smoldering. I think this collection will be a big hit because its colors are intense but not heavy, so they're wearable whether you're 17 or 71. One of Clinique's best-selling items is Almost Lipstick in Black Honey, a universally flattering deep rose that has a huge cult following. That's why I was so excited to find out about a new limited-edition shade called Black Plum. As a sister shade to Black Honey, it's perfect. It's just slightly darker, but because it's sheer, it isn't too much.

Another new product is Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss, a larger and more moisturizing version of Superbalm Tinted Lip Treatment. It comes in eight shiny shades, including a gorgeously glistening magenta called Raspberry that I have to try!

Spring-Clean Your Makeup Bag

It's almost May, so it's time for a little Spring cleaning . . . of your makeup bag, that is. Since expired cosmetics can cause skin irritation and eye infections, it's important to replace them before they go south. Unlike food, though, cosmetics aren't required to have an expiration date on their packaging. Instead, you'll have to keep track of when you opened them. Most products have a jar symbol, in which the number signifies the number of months you have until the item is no longer usable. If you have a hard time keeping track of when you've bought things, just use a Sharpie to write down the purchase date. (Or use these handy expiration-date stickers.)

If you know how to take care of your cosmetics, your makeup should serve you well. But use common sense: if your gloss is gloopy, your nail polish is separating, or your lipstick has a funny smell - it's time to bid it adieu. To see guidelines for when to replace your makeup, read more.

Fruity, bright pink lipstick is one of the year's biggest red carpet trends so far, with celebrities opting for every shade from bubblegum to cranberry. This week, three stars stepped out in equally vivid shades of mid-tone watermelon pink. First up: Emily Blunt, whose glossy lipstick was offset by understated hair and makeup. Then we have Julianne Moore, who wore an almost-matte stain and complemented it with a swoop of her beautiful copper hair. And last but not least, Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy wore a slightly deeper shade and added plenty of false lashes and soft, pretty curls. They all looked great, but which of these looks do you think wins out?

What We're Sweet On: Lip Color That Really, Truly Doesn't Quit

Forget long wear lipstick and stains. Right now, we're wondering if we'll never need to reapply again. When we tried Urban Decay Super-Saturated lip color ($19), we expected it to be bright, but we didn't expect it to last through breakfast, lunch, and snacks seemingly unfazed. In fact, we just assumed it had worn off when we caught ourselves in the bathroom mirror and realized that it was still there and almost as vivid as it had been six hours before. It's almost like it was challenging us.

The secret to its invincibility appears to lie in its massive pigment payoff. We've been applying the orange and fuchsia shades (Punch Drunk and Crush, respectively) together to create a custom neon pink, then blotting and pressing it into our lips for a matte finish. And even after that, the stuff's so highly pigmented that it stays around for the rest of the day. It's much brighter (and longer lasting) than almost any lip stain we've tried.

The only downside is that the high opacity limits the color's versatility. You can blot it down or try to dilute it with gloss, but you'll be working a long time before you get any kind of sheer or subtle result. Still, we'd never knock anything with this much staying power, and if you love vibrant lip color, you may finally have met your match. We know we did.

What We're Sweet On: Great Lip Stuff, Weird Names

Nobody would ever really be keen on the idea of putting blood or tears on our lips, so Rain Cosmetics is really lucky that its new lip stain, Blood ($12), and gloss, Tears ($12), are so superlatively great. Blood is a deep pink gel-based stain that's like a thicker, less-red Benetint. The lasting power is excellent when applied on the lips, but it works well on cheeks, too - even though it's not strictly for use as rouge. And thanks to the gel texture, the product spreads on wonderfully, allowing you plenty of time to blend away splotches.

Tears, the less eccentrically named of the two, is perfect if you're tired of supershiny, goopy gloss that makes you look like you just freshened up your makeup before eighth grade science class. Tears isn't sticky, the shine is so subtle that it almost looks more like balm, and it goes over stain or lipstick beautifully. So don't judge a gloss by its slightly creepy packaging; this stuff is much better than your average bodily fluid.

Every year, Maybelline puts out a calendar showcasing anticipated trends for the next year. BellaSugar has the entire gallery of photos from the calendar, but I was particularly drawn to the bright colors featured on this model. Sunshine yellow, grass green, and a color that looks suspiciously close to the Pantone 2012 Color of the year, Tangerine Tango, create a fresh and exciting palette. I set out on a mission to find pieces in the home decor world that reflected these bright and bold colors.

For the Tangerine Tango shade, swept across the model's upper and lower eyelids, try the &Tradition VP6 Topan Pendant Lamp in Orange ($350). I love the green lipstick the model is sporting, almost as much as I love the Blue Dot Strut Console Table ($450). The powder-coated steel frame is available in other colors, but why would you choose anything else besides that gorgeous grassy green.

Found! Rooney Mara's Gorgeous, Just-Bitten Lipstick Shade

With her perfectly creamy skin, piercing eyes, and ebony strands, Rooney Mara looked almost like a present-day rendition of a Robert Palmer girl at yesterday's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo premiere. But whereas Palmer's muses wore patent-red lipstick and heavy-handed blush and foundation, Mara's look was clean, fresh, and surprisingly simple to re-create.

"The dress was so magnificent, we just decided that she needed to look effortless, and that the lip should look 'bitten,'" explained Chanel celebrity makeup artist Kate Lee. To bring the concept to life, Lee applied the brand's Rouge Allure Velvet Lip Colour in La Somptueuse ($32), a brownish-red, as a stain. The apples of the cheeks were given a creamy glow with Kevyn Aucoin's Tresbelle blush, and black eyeliner and mascara - no eye shadow was used at all - completed the modern-classic palette.
