Potential nerd alert: recently, I have become rather captivated with time travel movies. What's not to love? The main characters make some kind of fantastical journey through time, typically to make things right.

Back during "the talk" in school, I distinctively recall our teacher reminding us why we all needed to know the technical terms for our most intimate of parts. That way, we wouldn't have to resort to using vulgarity or slang in attempt to describe any and all ailments to the doctor. When it comes to beauty, knowing the technical term can help you score big points in Trivial Pursuit, but you probably won't shrink from embarrassment if you don't use the proper lingo for the different classifications of acne at the derm's office.

Do you know your film noir, doll? This cinematic genre often starred alluring actresses such as Veronica Lake, Rita Hayworth, and Ava Gardner. Common features of these types of films include a highly stylized appearance of both the characters and scenery, a crime, and some sort of dramatic, sexual undertone in the backdrop — think The Maltese Falcon and Out of the Past, or in more modern films, Basic Instinct or No Country For Old Men.

It seems like every time I turn around, the FDA is approving another use for Botox, and some doctor in Hollywood is finding yet another off-brand thing to do with it, scary as that is. The number of uses for the stuff has gotten so mind-boggling that I still have a hard time wrapping my head around a lot of them. Can you guess which of these Botox uses is real, and which one is as fake as a pair of implants?

Apparently, the people who name eye shadows and the ones who make up street drug slang have more in common than a love of powdered substances — their choice of words is eerily similar as well. While drug abuse isn't funny at all, some of the names the government has collected that are supposedly used to describe them are, and eye shadows are sounding downright wild, if not pornographic, lately. Can you tell which of these is a harmless cosmetic and which a hard street drug?

As Lucy could tell you, red is the rarest, and perhaps most coveted, hair color (so much so that Ms. Ball dyed her naturally blond hair her now iconic shade of carrot). And for thousands of years, people have been coming up with stories about it.

Fragrance notes are a complex and surprising thing. If a fragrance isn't very linear, the accord you get can be totally different than the sum total of its parts, and perfumers are often given to lavish, overstated descriptions of their ingredients. (How does Indonesian vanilla smell different from Tahitian vanilla if they're the same plant species, exactly?) I've gathered up five super-popular perfumes you've almost certainly smelled (or owned) at some point.

My favorite Top Model (say that in autotune!) episodes are the ones that force the girls to shoot commercials. None will ever be as hilarious as Dominique's ("Brazilia!") or Jade's (fabulous!), but still, it's entertainment. Poor Laura stumbled over her lines due to her dyslexia, but wasn't it satisfying to see Erin's hubris blow up in her face?

So. Everyone on the show is a jerk. Last night, I was so embarrassed for Blair that I had to hide my head in the couch cushions for a minute.

From a biological perspective, hair is like a little diary giving clues about your personality, from where you live to what you smoke to what you tend to eat. But from a social perspective, hair can give clues about you in a whole other way. It might be stereotyping, but it is human nature for people to form impressions about other people within mere seconds.
