Coming Soon: Clinique Play in the Darks Collection

If you're part of TeamSugar's Clinique Clique, you already know that Clinique has an easy-to-wear color collection along with its famed skin care line. If not, its fall colors are reason enough to get acquainted with Clinique's eye shadows, mascaras and lip colors.

The new items won't be in stores until August, but I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at Clinique's new Play in the Darks collection. It's all about "blackened color," but not in a goth, I-hate-my-parents way. Instead, the hues are rich, saturated and smoldering. I think this collection will be a big hit because its colors are intense but not heavy, so they're wearable whether you're 17 or 71. That's why I was so excited to find out about a new limited-edition shade called Black Plum. As a sister shade to Black Honey, it's perfect. It's just slightly darker, but because it's sheer, it isn't too much. Another new product is Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss, a larger and more moisturizing version of Superbalm Tinted Lip Treatment. It comes in eight shiny shades, including a gorgeously glistening magenta called Raspberry that I have to try! Finally, here are the products used in this photo, which I love:

DKNY Fall 2012

Dedicated to the Beat Generation, DKNY Fall 2012 showed a collection filled with strong silhouettes, pretty details, and even some shearling and fur. Designed with a city girl in mind, these seemed dedicated to the working city girl - skirt and jacket looks were belted for a crisp look, and coats were edged in leather. Ashley Greene, Nina Dobrev, and Coco Rocha were seated in the front row, watching the models come in literally off the street - the show was sat in a cavernous garage-like space with double-doors that opened out onto the sidewalk, allowing the models to walk in. Minus the fact that it was freezing out, it made for an energetic show.

Trends: ladylike, fur details, leather sleeves, florals.
Colors: Black, gray, plum, red, florals.
Key Piece: A leather-sleeved coat to wear over sheath dresses.
Accessories: Fur snoods with buckle closures, sleek clutches, red ankle strap platform heels.

HTC Introduces Rhyme to the Color-Loving Masses

Smartphones these days are getting a little dull, wouldn't you say? Looking out across the offerings, it's an endless sea of black (and sometimes white) casings. HTC seems hell bent on trying to avoid this trend with its newly announced Android device called the Rhyme. The plum metallic casing on this Android-running phone is stylish indeed, but are the innards as impressive as the outside shell?

Announced today, the HTC Rhyme will be exclusive to Verizon Wireless and will hit shelves in the coming weeks (possibly as soon as Sept. 29) alongside some bonus accessories. Early adopters can preorder the Rhyme at Target starting tomorrow through Sept. 26. First, let's learn about the specs:

Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS and HTC Sense UI
3.7-inch WVGA LCD screen
5MP rear-facing camera with auto focus, power LED flash, instant shutter, face detection, action burst (takes five consecutive shots in a row), and panorama, and a 0.3MP forward-facing camera
1Ghz single core processor, 4GB of internal memory, only 768MB of RAM

There are some other cool features coming with the latest version of HTC Sense, including 12 new wallpapers, a preview tab that lets you see all of your incoming and missed calls, emails, messages, and the like, and a photo auto-upload feature that will let you send images taken from your phone straight to a designated Facebook album. This could put you in some sticky situations, so be sure to address whether you want that feature enabled or not from day one!

Purple Lip Gloss Is Fashionable, But Is It Wearable, Too?

Rich purple is one of this season's hottest shades, and you'll find it all over nail polishes, eye shadows, and handbags. But what about on lips? In their new collections, MAC, Illamasqua, and Yves Saint Laurent, among others, have launched lip colors that run the gamut from aubergine to lilac and magenta. Plum lipstick is a perennial favorite, but traditionally other shades of purple haven't gotten much play.

I tried wearing Nyx Brush On Gloss in Golden Mauve ($6) and liked the color; although, I didn't find other people as responsive. Would you give grape-hued gloss or lipstick a chance, or is this color, like black lipstick before it, likely to remain popular on the runway and not-so-hot in real life?

How to Get a Soft, Smoky Eye

Smoky eyes are always a go-to, but sometimes they can feel a bit heavy during warmer weathered months. For a lighter take on the look, check out Lake Bell's version of a subtly smoky eye, which she recently wore to an event in New York. What makes her eye makeup so pretty is the fact that the shades used are within the same color family, but with different textures and varying intensities. Easily re-create Lake's look on your own with a palette of purple shadows: a soft plum for the bottom lash lines, a light, shimmery lilac for the inner corners; and a rich eggplant for the outer creases. Top off with a touch of black liner and mascara for depth.
