Trend Alert: Turquoise Nail Polish

Among the many qualities that make Whitney Port (of The Hills) so lovely is that she has her own style. I've always thought of Whit as someone who sets trends as opposed to following them. So when I spotted this style star sporting shiny turquoise nail polish, I was excited.

For anyone who's willing to try out a wild new water-colored varnish, get ready for the next big nail trend. You can always go back to my China Glaze review, and here are two more aqua nail polishes.

Nic's Sticks by OPI in Baby Go Bye-Bye ($6.99) is a vibrant turquoise color. This relatively new and easy-to-use nail polish pen is great if you are looking for a quick color fix. I haven't tried them, but there are 30 colors and from what I understand, the only drawback is that they are a little runnier than the original OPI formula. The advantage: the polish dries in just one minute.

Chic or Shocking? Electric Makeup At Gareth Pugh

At yesterday's Gareth Pugh fashion show, models were covered in white powder, and their eyebrows, lips, eyeliner and lashes were painted electric blue. Their cheeks and eyes were dusted with aqua powder and their hair was twisted into a modified modern cornrow. This is by far one of the more courageous - or should I say outrageous - runway makeup looks of the season. What do you think of it?

Love It or Hate It? Kate Hudson's Black and Blue Eyes

Kate Hudson stepped out for the windy Los Angeles premiere of her new movie Fool's Gold co-starring hunky, father-to-be Matthew McConaughey last night. I didn't think her blue dress was very figure flattering, but I loved the way she matched her makeup to her outfit. Do you think Kate's black and blue eye liner is foolish or fabulous?

Chanel Vs Dior: Battle of the Blue Polishes

If you've been following nail polish trends over the last few months, you know that Blue Satin is this season's It color. Part of the Chanel spring color collection, it's an inky shade that nearly looks black. But Dior wants you to take a new look at its blue-polish offering, which just launched as a Sephora exclusive in the States.

How will you know which blue's for you? Well, that partly depends on whether you prefer wholesome musicals or New Jack Swing. Read on:

New Product Alert: Fall 2007 Designer Shades by OPI

Who knew that OPI had so many different categories of polishes? I thought they only came out with one new collection each season, but I've recently learned about two more: A line of six colorful Dog PAWlishes and the Designer Shades Collection.

For Fall 2007 OPI has released two new shades in this dynamic designer group: DS diamond and DS fantasy.

DS fantasy is a dark blue polish with heavy silver shimmer. How appropriate for Fall since there's just been a recent surge of trendy navy nail polishes on the scene.

DS diamond is a softer, silvery polish infused with diamond dust. This creates a glamorous, glittery evening look that reflects light. Both polishes come with the ProWide Brush for easy application. I wish all polish companies thought about their brushes like this!

Trend Alert: Navy Nails

Hey there sailor! Navy isn't on reserve for nautical use alone any longer. These deep navy nail polishes are this season's next big "it" nail. Say hello to inks and indigos, which are richer alternatives to ultra dark black and traditional red lacquers. Here are three rich blue hues for the gal who's not afraid to make a statement.

For those of you who have been skimming over my blue makeup posts because you don't think blue makeup is for you, I encourage you to experiment with ceruleans, sapphires and indigos. All of those shades of amazing azures are very "in" for Fall.

Your best bet is to choose colors that contrast the iris of your eye to make them look more vibrant. The blue makeup spectrum ranges from pale pastels to electric brights, so there is definitely something out there for everyone to fancy! Blue is Back, Part II: Turquoise Blue Eye Shadows

Part II of my series on bright blue makeup focuses on turquoise eyeshadow. Elizabeth Taylor first made the azure eye famous when she played Cleopatra. This season, history repeats itself and we see all kinds of color-blocking fashions, with cosmetics following suit.

You don't need to be quite as dramatic as Taylor, who paired her bold blue shadow with a dramatized wing-tip liner. But then again, who's to say that you can't walk like an Egyptian if you want to?

Nars Eye Shadow Duo in South Pacific ($31) is a shimmering turquoise and a dark aquamarine powder eye shadow duo that can be layered for a dramatic, edgy evening look or dusted lightly over the eye for a soft romantic twist on the traditional smoky eye.

Blue makeup is back, and I'm not talking about subtle icy pastels or navys. I mean bold turquoise, ocean and sea-foam greeny-blue hues! If you think that you can't pull these off because of your eye color, think again! These new shades have no rules. Just remember a few helpful hints and you'll look fab this fall.

Choose shades that aren't too matchy with your eye color, and remember to blend well! Also, if you are going to wear bold, daring color on your eyes, then keep the rest of your makeup light.

Dior Eye Show in Aquadelic ($30) is a creamy, soufflé-textured, waterproof eye shadow that puts other color pots to shame. You just need a super-small amount to make a big impression! These shadows used to be the secret of Dior makeup artists, but now they are available to the masses!

Yesterday, a friend pointed out her new mascara. She was wearing Benefit Bad Gal Blue, a violet-blue hue that's said to brighten the appearance of eyes. I haven't had much confidence with it-I'm worried that blue mascara will make me look like Whitney Houston circa "How Will I Know?", which is not my prerogative-but the whites of my friend's eyes did look bright. (Then again, they usually do.)

Well, it turns out the blue trend is going over very well: More than 130,000 units of Bad Gal Blue were sold during the first two weeks. If you're interested in hopping on the blue bandwagon, just pull out some Miles Davis (Kind of Blue, natch) and check out my guide to blue lip glosses.
