Combining Runway Trends: The Boho Band Braid and Teased Hair

Two of this Fashion Week's most prominent hair trends were fancy bohemian-style braids and teased, high-texture hair, appearing at Rachel Roy and Tracy Reese (among other shows). I like both looks but wanted to combine them into something simpler to do and more wearable for the office. So I kept the braid's center part, but instead of doing a time-consuming wraparound, I just did two smaller band braids from the center. Then, I teased up the back of my hair with an Rsession Tools teasing comb ($13). What do you think? Is it a workable fusion of the two big trends, or do you think I should come up with a different way to put them together?

Last year we had the Grey's Anatomy musical episode, and this season it's the alternate-reality episode. That's right: as Meredith ponders on the veracity of the phrase "meant to be," we get to see what could have been - or in this case, what was always destined to be. SAG Awards Trend Alert: Headband Braids

Headband braids are always popular, but they dominated the hairstyles at the 2012 SAG Awards. Glee star Dianna Agron chose a messy fishtail version of the look that only came three-quarters of the way across her forehead, making for the most fashion-forward braid of the evening. The award for most romantic take on the braid goes to The Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco, who wore a thick plait accentuated by lots of free tendrils that gave the style an old-fashioned feel. And the most subtle headband braid at the SAGs was probably Extra host Renee Bargh's minibraid, which actually did look more like a headband than any of the others. It's all just further proof that complex braids are here to stay.

Leave it to Parisian haute couturiers to take something as timeless as the French braid and turn it into a piece of avant-garde hair art. Couture Week just kicked off, but already the Christophe Josse show debuted this amazing conch shell braid, which winds around itself and incorporates various plaiting techniques. If precedent is any indication, we can expect more hair-raising coiffures to come. And while this wound-up look certainly isn't the kind of style that's easy to craft on your own, it might be stunning for a wedding or debutante ball, especially if you wanted to show off your shoulders and neck.
