ck Calvin Klein Beauty: It's Here!

We've already heard some background on the relaunch of Calvin Klein cosmetics. Now they're available online at Sephora, which also has some exclusive colors. I haven't been able to check out this line in person yet - although some readers have mentioned in-store sightings at Macy's - but I'm looking forward to it.

Some of the eye shadow shades are beautiful, and the Ultimate Edge Gel Eyeliners are tempting. (If you're a fan of MAC Fluidlines or HIP cream eyeliner, you'll want to check these out.) One big disappointment: The foundations aren't available in shades to suit most women of color, just a range from Soft Beige to Suntan. Hey, Calvin, what gives? In 2008, there's no excuse for launching a cosmetics line and leaving so many women without choices.

Remember when Calvin Klein had a cosmetics line a few years ago? Its minimalist packaging reminded me of Shu Uemura a bit, and the colors were flattering and natural-looking. Despite these good qualities, it was discontinued. But as of January, it'll be back in a big way.

The ck Calvin Klein beauty collection includes more than 200 products, ranging from foundation to lip color to nail polish and everything in between. The concept is to link the cosmetics line closely to the current-season Calvin Klein fashion. To that end, makeup artists at the sales counter will be called "stylists." (What's wrong with plain old "makeup artists"? Oh well.)

Mark Carrasquillo, ck Calvin Klein global makeup artist, says that color is the thrust of the collection. He said: "You might put a green and blue eyeshadow together, but it's all about the application and how you wear it to make it new." Calvin Klein's Latest Fragrance: ck IN2U

Last night I attended the launch party of Calvin Klein's latest Fragrance called, ck IN2U. This star studded event took place in a warehouse in the garment district in NYC. Drinks flowed (in CK bar-ware of course), male CK models pranced around in black wife beaters and celebs such as: Mena Suvari, Sienna Miller, Jamie Burke and last season's winner from America's Next Top Model, Caridee, were present. Stay tuned for more on my interview with Caridee on next week's installment of Model of the Week.

ck IN2U is a perfume for all of us bloggers out there! The idea is based on the premise that you don't know what the guy looks like that you've been flirting with on IM and email, but you know that he's into you and you are diggin' him for sure! You are having intense feelings of anticipation and excitement.

There you have the essence of the fragrance. It is all about connecting with another person and there are actually two fragrances this time from Calvin Klein although they share a name; one for men and one for women.

ck IN2U for her is made from: pink grapefruit fizz, Sicilian bergamot, red currant leaves, sugar orchid, white cactus, neon amber, vanilla and red cedar. ckIN2U for him is made from: lime gin fizz, pomelo leaves, frosted tangelo, cocoa, pimento, shiso leaves, cool musks, white cedar and ultra-vetiver.

The collection includes a large eau de toilette bottle (5 oz) for $60, a 3.4 oz bottle for $40, and a 1.7 oz bottle for $36. They will be available April 1st at fine department and speciality stores nationwide. To see images from the party, read more

Calvin Klein's Fragrances: Formerly Kinda Creepy

Even though I was a wee thing when it launched in 1985, I remember how enormously popular Calvin Klein Obsession ($65) was in its day. It's a warm, spicy scent that is much heavier than any of Calvin Klein's more modern scents. But in the same way that ckOne feels like a stereotypically '90s scent, Obsession will always be filed away in the '80s to me.

While taking a trip down memory lane, I sought out a few commercials from back in the day. I am so disturbed by this one, I don't know where to begin. Is it the clapping? The confusion over whether our young narrator is talking about his mother or some other grown woman? Oh, the smell of it!

Then again, that's not half as weird as another Calvin Klein commercial from back in the day. Truly creepy. To see it, read more.

Oh Man: It's Calvin Klein MAN

Normally, I wouldn't blog about a men's cologne, but because it's Calvin Klein, and I am such a big fan of his timeless scents, I really wanted you to be in the know. This new cologne, Calvin Klein Man, is a fresh, spicy and masculine scent. Sweetest Day is just around the corner, so if you want to spoil the man in your life, it might be a good gift.

It is made from a blend of rosemary, mandarin, bergamot, violet leaf, bay, nutmeg, spearmint, incense, cypress wood, sandalwood, musk, amber wood and guaiac wood. Keeping in tradition with CK's aesthetic, the bottle has a very sleek and chic design. It was created from a thin glass bottle accented with chrome and a strong black glossy inlaid plaque.

The Man collection consists of a 3.4 oz Eau de Toilette spray ($65), a 1.7 oz Eau de Toilette spray ($48), a 3.4 oz after shave splash ($45), a deodorant ($16), a 6.7 oz hair and body wash ($20), and a 5 oz after shave balm ($40)-all of which are expected to be on counters nationwide beginning in October.

Bella Donna: Ronnie Spector

Girl groups from the Spice Girls to Le Tigre might not exist were if not for Ronnie Spector, the lead singer of 1960s girl band The Ronettes and first wife of murder suspect (and alleged nutball) Phil Spector. During a time when multiracial, all-female bands (Ronnie and her sister-cum-bandmate Estelle's mother was black and Native American, their father Irish) were uncommon, The Ronettes topped charts. Their most famous song, "Be My Baby" (yes, from Dirty Dancing) has been covered or sampled by bands from The Beatles to Concrete Blonde to Amy Winehouse. Ronnie (born Veronica Yvette Bennett) released a memoir in 2004 titled Be My Baby: How I Survived Mascara, Miniskirts, and Madness.

The Ronettes began performing together as The Darling Sisters in 1959, and when the oldest member was 18, the group won a talent show at The Apollo. While in line for The Peppermint Lounge (a Manhattan disco owned by the Genovese crime family) a couple of years later, the trio were mistaken for a no-show band and ended up on stage. Before long, they hooked up with producer Phil Spector, who is credited with getting them to adopt a more rocker style by wearing beehives and heavy eyeliner.

Beauty Mark It! A Spring Blush

As if I haven't blathered on about it enough, I'm going to say it again: I love blush! Cream, powder, gel, stick, pot, you name it. I always grab the brightest and most garish pink because its the prettiest to my eye, but it can sometimes be a disaster on me. Since it's Spring, there's no better time than now to add a fresh pop of color to those cheeks, so I'm using it as an excuse to stock up on blush galore!

This week, I want to know what your go-to Spring blush colors are. It can be something tried and true, or a new color or product you've been dying to experiment with. I love this coral-pink shade of CK Calvin Klein Flush Blush called Shiver. What about you? Do you go for a more natural look with a gel or tint, or is Spring your time to ramp up the color with a pop of candy-pink powder on your cheeks?
