Macy's Teams Up With Doo-Ri For Next Designer Collaboration

Timing couldn't be more perfect for Macy's next designer collaborator: Doo-Ri Chung. The designer who's known for her beautiful draped dresses and separates - Chung's gorgeous purple dress was worn by Michelle Obama at the state dinner welcoming South Korea last week - will emulate the same aesthetic in her collection for Macy's Impulse line via short and maxi-length dresses, leggings, blouses, and trenchcoats using jersey, knitwear, and art prints. “Women definitely want clothes that are versatile. I love pieces that you wear for day, and when you accessorize, become perfect for evening, too,” said Chung.The collection is set to retail from $39 to $159 and will be available Feb. 15 online and in stores. "Usually, people go for rock, romantic, or hippie," makeup artist said of Doo.Ri Chung's design philosophy. "But she's making everything for the modern girl today." The same could be said for Pecheux, who led a team of MAC artists in creating a sparkling, colorful runway look. Inspired by Chung's beaded collection, the makeup featured light contouring and no mascara. But the focal point was a matte red lip coated with glitter. ("It's green and blue, thanks to Avatar," he revealed.) To complement the look, manicurist Jin Soon Choi tweaked the current cement-colored nail polish trend by adding shimmer; the result, she said, was "chic, modern, and sophisticated."

The same could be said of the hair, which featured face-framing fishtail braids on each side of the head. The look was loose - realistic. "I look at the clothes and do a hairstyle that a woman would actually do," said lead stylist Orlando Pita. "If she did the braids herself, they'd be looser." To get the look, he sprayed hair with his Elevate volumizer, then straightened it with a T3 450 iron. Two fishtail braids (learn how here) and a ponytail elastic later, the models were runway ready.

Doo-Ri's Lower-End Line - Under.Ligne - Is Here

We last heard about Doo-Ri Chung's budget-friendly line back in December. Seven months later, Under.Ligne has come to fruition. The current collection has nine pieces - fancy tees, leggings, and draped dresses - ranging from $150 to $495. Not cheap but way less than the designer's main label. Also unlike the main line, Under.Ligne's silhouettes are more simplified and everyday. Now I'm just waiting for Doo-Ri's novel hosiery collection. In the meantime, are you digging Under.Ligne?
