One of the frustrating things about some eco-friendly products is the often-high price. Yes, we'd all love to go green, but it's difficult to pay $20 for body lotion when Curel can be had for a small fraction of that cost.
Enter Seed, a new line of natural body care that's free of parabens, preservatives, phthalates, artificial colors, and animal ingredients.

It's been a month, and boy have things changed. I've totally overhauled my hair and skincare regimens, learned how to make my own makeup, and even gotten rid of antiperspirant. Today, I put on concealer for the first time in five weeks and it felt utterly strange (but awesome).

As promised, the other night I made my own eyeliner from a recipe given to me by reader Little Pepper. It sounded pretty simple; just burn an almond and use the soot to make eyeliner. Turns out, things require a bit more prep than that, but the results were lovely: a highly pigmented carbon black that was very smooth and not at all irritating.

Hi! I'm just one week away from having been natural for a full month, and a ton has changed since I started. If you want to see what beauty recipes I'm using now and see how a cheek and lip stain made of cherries looks, just check out my mid-week post from a few days ago.

I promised to post the results of my experiments with using cherries as cheek and lip stain this week, so here they are. I literally just walked around rubbing some bing cherry halves on my face, much to Mr. Bella's bemusement. The results were pretty great, and the rest of the bag of cherries was delicious (om nom nom nom).

Welcome back, dear readers, to another week in Natural Land. I've switched up my routine a bunch, and things have changed, as you can see — though in a few bizarro ways, too. I've got a lot to tell you, so to hear about what I've been doing, just keep reading.

Hi! It's a new year and the end of my second week using only natural, edible skin- and haircare recipes (that means no makeup, too). To wit, there are a few things my hair is now: great smelling, soft, shiny, and manageable.

I am predisposed to like Vapour Organic Beauty, if only because this makeup line makes me think of one of my favorite songs. Fortunately, there are nondream pop reasons to love this new eco-friendly brand, too.
Developed under the guidance of cosmetic-industry expert Eric Sakas, who spent years working with brands like Philosophy and famed makeup artist Kevin Aucoin, Vapour features 100 percent natural products with a minimum of 70 percent certified organic ingredients.

The headline sorta says it all there. After a week of substituting various old-fashioned, edible beauty recipes for my normal routine, Mr. Bella has both told me that I "smell like a salty carny" and said that he "feels bad for my face" because my skin has now broken out terribly and I can't wear makeup to cover it up. He also just called me his "little rennet" (yes, as in the cheese ingredient).

I recently posted a story about an old family conditioner recipe made of whole milk and ferns, and reading the comments made me curious about old-fashioned product recipes made from natural, edible ingredients. So for the next month, I'm going off the product grid. (The rest of Team Bella will report on modern-day beauty goods in the meantime.) I'll be using only beauty formulas that were around when your great-great-grandparents were and, of those, only recipes that are edible and cheaply, readily available.
