Burberry to Launch Its Own Cosmetics Line

If you already love your Burberry trench, scarf, bikini, and handbag, get ready to add makeup to your collection, because WWD is reporting that the company has just announced the colors for its cosmetics line, which is slated to arrive in July 2010. Philippe Benacin, chairman and managing director of Inter Parfums SA, says the collection will be "a complete color line with about 100 references for eyes, lips, and skin" and will be carried at Nordstrom. My question is, though, how will Burberry create makeup that's any better than what a company that specializes in the products does? I assume they'll be using colors that hearken back to the brand's heritage, like Burberry tan, but are you interested in having your eye shadow match your knockoff? With Emma Watson currently the line's face, it seems as though the brand is making a grab for younger buyers, which means less-expensive products like makeup. Hopefully they'll try to bring quality and design to the table as well.

Emma Watson might be developing a reputation as a budding fashionista, particularly as she's been making the promotional rounds for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince dressed in gorgeous gowns and enviable hairstyles. But that's far from how she wants to be perceived. "First and foremost, I’m an actress," she told WWD.

The starlet has plans to begin college at an undisclosed location in the States, but with her interest in the fashion and design industries, could a celebrity fragrance be next up for Emma? "[It’s] gotten so ridiculous," said Emma of the trend. "The idea of making my own perfume makes me want to vomit." Er, that's not good. In the meantime, we'll leave all tincture and potion making up to Hermione, the character who made her famous.

Rainy weather didn't stop Emma Watson from looking fresh-faced and chic at the London premiere of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. In fact, the loose updo style, complemented with braids and a red hair accent, is perfect for beating warm-weather humidity.

Now, I realize many of you might be sick of hearing about braids and headbands, two trends that have been popular for some time thanks to the ladies of The Hills and Gossip Girl, but you've got to appreciate how Emma turned the look into something fresh. Beauty Byte: Emma Watson Gets a New Role

Well, that didn't last long. Keira Knightley, who last year replaced Kate Moss as the face of Coco Mademoiselle perfume, is being replaced herself! Chanel's new pick is 18-year-old Emma Watson, best known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies. The Telegraph reports that Emma will earn a hefty £3 million (almost six million dollars) for her two-year contract.

I love Emma, but this news is a little bit surprising. While Coco Mademoiselle is among Chanel's "younger" fragrances, I don't think I would have worn it as a teenager. It's fresh and beautiful, but it has a sophisticated edge that works best on someone a few more years out of girlhood. Emma will probably work some of her magic for the brand, but do you think it's a good fit?

Update: My friends at Off The Rack report that the whole thing is untrue.

The little girl who played Hermione Granger is now quite a pretty young woman! Emma Watson seems to be one of those fortunate few who's squeaking through her teenage years without any awkward phases. At the London premiere of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, she wore her hair down; at this weekend's Los Angeles premiere, she chose an up-do. I like the LA look just a tiny bit over the flowing locks, but take that opinion with a grain of salt-I'm just a muggle, you know. What do you think?
