New Product Alert: Fafi For MAC

If you like bright colors or graffiti art, you're going to love MAC's new makeup collection. It's a collaboration with Parisian graffiti artist Fafi, who spray paints colorful cartoons of urban girls. Her art is the focus of this limited-edition line, which fuses girly illustrations with sleek black packaging. And as for what's inside, you'll find bright shades dominated by tangerine, pink, and violet.

I was able to play around with this collection at Henri Bendel last week, and I was surprised by its versatility. As bright as some shades are - and some, like the Rollickin' paint pot in turquoise, are quite eye-catching - other colors are more subtle than you'd expect. Not So Innocent, for example, is a pearly tan lipstick that would be acceptable even the most buttoned-up office.

My only disappointment with this collection is that for all the effort that went into design, the packaging could be a little better. Fafi's drawings aren't imprinted on the lipstick cases; instead, they're printed on stickers that wrap around the lipstick tube. It's only a matter of time before the stickers get banged up in my bag, potentially ruining the cute-packaging factor. You win some, you lose some, I guess.

Coming Soon: MAC and Fafi Collaboration

I've been really excited about the springtime MAC collaboration with Fafi, a Parisian graffiti artist, ever since I heard about it earlier this fall. Now that Specktra.net has unearthed some sneak-preview images, it seems like only a matter of time before this collection sells out. It's due on counters in February, and I think it'll be huge with the club-kid/hip-hop set-along with anyone else who likes to have a little fun with her makeup. How-To: Heidi Montag's Letterman Makeup Look

Lord knows I'm not the biggest fan of Heidi Montag (star of The Hills), but I will say that her makeup looks stunning here outside of the Late Show studio in New York City. Her face is so smooth, and her cheekbones are looking mighty sculpted.

Heidi was there to talk about the show, her new clothing line, and of course, her (lame) boyfriend Spencer. For those of you who are looking to mimic Heidi's Letterman-show makeup, here's what to do.

FACE: Smooth on a medium coverage, pale foundation such as Yves Saint Laurent Perfect Touch Radiant Brush Foundation in #6, and blend. The best part about this product is that the brush is attached. Then, dust a mineral powder over the foundation, apply concealer and a little brightener around the eyes.
CHEEKS: Her face looks almost porcelain, so you aren't going to want to disturb it with too much color. I suggest using a light, shimmer-free, tannish-coral contouring blush like MAC in Sincere to the apples of the cheeks and sweep upwards and outwards along the low side of the cheekbones. Make sure you blend well with a soft, fluffy brush. Next, add a touch of subtle, silvery highlighter along the very top of your cheekbones, to your forehead and along the top of your nose.

EYES: The MAC #1 Fafi Eye Quad is a perfect group of shadows to help re-create Heidi's sultry eyes. Begin by blending the vanilla shade all over the lid. Then, apply the pink shadow to the top of your lids and stop at the crease. TIP: Also apply a little bit to the inner half of your lower lashes. Next, blend the medium-brown shadow in the crease adding in a dab of the darkest shade. Blend well and line your top and bottom lashes with a creamy black eyeliner pencil. Finish with false lashes and two coats of black mascara.
LIPS: All you really need is a creamy pale-pink lipstick and a clear gloss or a pale-pink, high-shine lip gloss like Bourjois Effet 3D High Shine Lip Gloss in Rose Idylic to achieve Heidi's pretty pout.

Do you buy makeup just because of the packaging? If so, here are few beauty products inspired by graffiti art. Perhaps the rebel in you might enjoy them.

I've already told you about the MAC Fafi collection, and this Lipglass in Totally It ($14) is such a hit that it's sold out online and in most of the boutiques. I guess I really called the bright pink lip trend this season! The best part about MAC's Lipglass is the incredible shine and the many different colors to choose from. My all-time favorite is 'Oh Baby' - what's yours?

Urban Decay Eye Shadow in Graffiti ($18) is a shimmery shade of primary green that will instantly transform your eyes into their own work of art. Vivienne Westwood Let It Rock Eau de Toilette is a sexy, jasmine, bergamot and patchouli fragrance. The bottle is tall and cylindrical and has writing in red lipstick down the side. The fragrance launched in July in Europe, and apparently it's very popular in the UK. Thanks to online retailers, you can purchase it - which is great, considering that there's still no word when it will be available in America.

Love It or Hate It? Heatherette for MAC

MAC has one busy year planned for 2008. Fergie's the new Viva Glam spokesperson, French graf artist Fafi is doing a collection, and in March, fashion-design duo Heatherette is releasing a hot pink line of makeup. While Heatherette is known for its outrageous outfits and glitter, they can also do simple makeup as well. Here's a preview of the packaging.
