Thanks to the help of Jane Richardson, an expert makeup artist for Nars, I've created another great BellaSugar series on the various shades of blush that are best suited for fair, medium, yellow-toned, olive and ebony skin.
The first thing to consider when choosing a blush is to try and match it with your natural flush. So after you've gotten out of the shower, or after you've just exercised, take a long look at your face.

I don't know how I missed this yesterday, but The New York Times just ran a pretty unsettling article about the Indian beauty market — specifically, the proliferation of skin-lightening products. A Unilever brand called Fair & Lovely has been selling skin lighteners for decades, but now an increasing number of cosmetics companies — including Avon, L’Oréal, Ponds, Garnier, the Body Shop, and Jolen — are marketing their own products designed to alter dark skin.
Though this sounds offensive to those of us who believe that diversity is an inherent party of beauty, the makers of these products say that reaction is just the result of cultural differences and bias, so read more

You don't have to look like you've just come down with an illness in order to rock a nude lipstick. The trick to wearing this neutral tone is to actually think subtle touches of color, in lieu of taking the term "nude" literally. From beige to mocha to sheer washes of pink, a nude-toned lip can be quite flattering, especially when coupled with a smoky eye.

There's no denying that Amanda Seyfried is having a big year so far. She's got the romantic lead in the latest Nicholas Sparks adaptation, she's featured as one of the brightest young stars in Vanity Fair's annual "Hollywood Issue," and after several years in the industry she's becoming a household name. Here's something to look forward to: Bare Escentuals and Benefit are both expanding their range of foundation shades this year. Now, both will offer even more options for both fair and dark skin colors — something I'm always happy to report.
Beginning in February, BareMinerals will add five new shades that range from a neutral light tone to a deep golden tone.

Remember a few years back, when we were all a-swim in self-tanner so powerful that many naturally fair-skinned girls walked around in a perpetual state of tiger-striped fake bake fade? I was watching all the fake tan on Jersey Shore the other night and realized that, although it's still all over the place on the show, I'm seeing a lot less of it in real life these days. Maybe it's just that it's Winter, but there's a lot less faux tan on the shelves at the drugstore, too.

That healthy flush celebrities get this time of year isn't just from Golden Globe nomination excitement. Bright pink blush has long been a cold-weather makeup kit staple because of its ability to give any wearer a rosy flush that looks like you just came inside from making snow angels. And because it's pink, not red or brown, your skin doesn't look ruddy or wind-burned.
