A DIY Foot Scrub That's Quick, Easy, and Affordable

Here's a quick and easy DIY foot scrub post from OnSugar blog Beautiful Basics.

When my feet are feeling more like alligator skin than feet, I whip up a batch of my favorite foot scrub ever! It helps my feet look and feel their best. All you need is:

Olive Oil

Brown Sugar

Sea Salt

I don't have specific measurements for you because I just make it by feel. You'll know what I'm talking about when you make up your own. You don't want it to be too thick, or too runny. You also want more brown sugar than sea salt. Rub onto your damp feet and massage for as long as you'd like. It feels lovely, albeit a bit tickly for those with sensitive feet, like myself. When you rinse, you'll have the smoothest feet you have ever had. I guarantee it!

Have a few beauty tips to share with us? Why not start an OnSugar blog of your own? You could be featured right here on Bella, too.

DIY Spa Treatment: Rose Mint Foot Scrub

Right now, there's not enough food in my house to make anything but mac 'n' cheese, but there is enough to make a DIY salt scrub (so maybe I can spend my pedicure money on groceries). Salt scrub tends to exfoliate more than sugar, so it's better for rough areas like feet, and mint is refreshing and soothing. The rose gives it a great scent and pretty color.

For instructions and to see the finished product,

Here's what you'll need:

<il>1/2 cup of coarse salt (i.e. sea salt, kosher salt, margarita salt)</il>
<il>Olive oil </il>
<il>1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon rose flower water (I picked up this one at a Middle Eastern store) </il>
<il>1 rose</il>
<il>3 stems fresh mint</il>

<il>Step 1: Combine salt and rosewater, but don't mix.</il>
<il>Step 2: Shred or cut the mint leaves into small pieces, add to mixture, and use a blunt object (I used the back of a screwdriver) to muddle (basically, bash and twist the mint into the mixture so the scent and oils are released).</il>
<il>Step 3: Take 3/4 of the petals off the rose and do the same. </il>
<il>Step 4: Add 1 tablespoon olive oil and mix. Feel free to add more, but be careful - it gets too greasy very fast!</il>
<il>Step 5: Use the rest of the rose as a garnish, either keeping the bud whole or adding bigger chunks of petals.</il>

Store in a mason jar, an empty tub of another product, or good ol' tupperware.

Check out my handiwork below:

Home Spa Treatment: Salt Foot Scrub

Are your feet just plain sick of pulling on and off those heavy winter boots? Are your dogs tired of being stuffed into dark shoes? Are your feet calloused from hibernating in heavy socks? Well now is the time to do some spring cleaning of your feet. Try this salt scrub to rejuvenate your tired feet while smoothing out the callouses.

Mix together:

1 Tablespoon of coarse, clean sand

1/4 cup light canola oil

1/4 cup liquid hand soap

1/4 cup sea salt

1/4 cup Epsom salt

If you have any essential oils on hand you can add about 5 to 10 drops. Peppermint oil can bring renewed vitality to exhausted feet.

Apply salt scrub to wet feet and gently massage all parts of your feet, paying particular attention to your heels. Rinse off the salt and pat dry. Moisturize.

Enjoy!!!!

3 Easy Steps For Treating Dry, Cracked Heels

Cracked heels can be a problem, especially in the colder months when the air lends itself to dry skin. On top of that, these fissures can worsen as a result of the pressure put on your heels throughout the day - especially if you're a fan of foot-imbalancing stilettos. Along with being less-than-aethestically-pleasing, untreated cracked heels can split even further, causing pain (and in some cases, infection). Prevention is key: moisturize daily, get pedicures as needed, and drink plenty of water to save your feet. But what do you do when your cracks are already out of whack? Find out how to do your own at-home treatment when you read more.

In one context it has floozy connotations, but in another, it's actually a British lunchtime talk show with, as you might expect, a risqué twist. And like many TV-inspired beauty products, (90210 nail polish and Mad Men lacquer, anyone?), the long-running program even has its own body care line (about $16 to $49), consisting of items like shower gel, hand cream, and foot scrub.

The line includes the following scents:

Indulge Me - Contains hints of vanilla and caramel, and is guaranteed to "bring out the kitten in every cougar." Young ones do like their sweets.

Soothe and Relax Me - Formulated with soothing seashore scents, accompanied by the tagline: "With one squeeze all her clothes fell off - a real Loose Women!" Ahem, a real loose woman, indeed.

Zest and Refresh Me - An invigorating scent with notes of grapefruit. Instructions: "Apply regularly and wait for a large diamond to appear." I think I'll stick with Match.com, thank you very much.

Walk With Me - No tagline here, just some nice refreshing peppermint-scented foot cream and scrub to revitalize those toes. Am I the only one thinking about Twin Peaks?

Some of the treatments are still great DIYs, and some are absolutely horrifying. Here are five simple, effective recipes you should try, plus three treatments from the book you definitely shouldn't.

Refinish Your Kitchen Cabinets With One Easy Product

If I were to ask you, "Are you proud of your kitchen?" I would venture to guess that most of you would respond, "No." Considering that the average age of the American home in 35 years, many of you have may inherited an old kitchen with laminate floor tile and countertops or dingy, dated cabinetry that doesn't look exactly as you'd wish.

With home prices down 30 to 50 percent, most consumers are only buying what we need and can afford, but unfortunately, a kitchen renovation is not the most budget-friendly of expenses. The cost to replace your cabinets and countertops stands somewhere between $4,000 and $20,000, depending on whether you purchase stock supplies or have a custom kitchen built. To reface your cabinets, you can expect to pay between $1,000 and $6,000. And painting your cabinets will cost you around $200, but as anyone who has tried this will tell you, the paint will inevitably peel if you don't strip, sand, and prime beforehand - a lengthy process.

So what's the alternative? Luckily there's a new product on the market for refinishing wood, melamine, laminate, and a number of cabinet surfaces that doesn't require sanding, stripping, or priming! Better yet, it'll cost you as little as $80. Find out what it is when you read more!

The constant exposure to air dries out your delicate skin, creating calluses. The pressure of pounding your feet on the ground when you walk or run exasperates the issue and causes heel fissures, or cracks in the skin. If you continue to walk or run, the cracks can split open and become deeper, which can lead to bleeding and infection. Aside from not looking the prettiest, they are also really painful.
