This month's issue of Elle features Sarah Jessica Parker and how she's become not just a celebrity, but also a brilliant businesswoman. In the story, SJP talks about Covet, her new fragrance:
"I know this about me: I will only do something that I can completely and utterly, for better or worse, take the credit, take the blame for, 100 percent," she says. Indeed, the bigwigs at Coty seem bemused by just how deeply she plunged herself into her two fragrances—two-year-old Lovely and, new this month, Covet—obsessing over everything from the herringbone-pattern box to the ultraspecific note of geranium in the scent itself ("I like that the plant was pulled from the earth, so you smell all the green of the sand and the dirt, and just a little bit of those petals on the bottom," Parker says).

Back in my junior high years, backcombing was a very close personal friend of mine. How else was I to achieve claw bang perfection? Whether you call it teasing, ratting, or backbrushing, backcoming helps create volume, hide thin spots, and/or provides a base for updos.

Anastasia Soare is arguably the world's most famous eyebrow shaper — and she's built a multimillion dollar business through knowing how to make an already pretty face look stunning. But getting to the top wasn't an easy journey, as she explains in The Huffington Post. A Romanian immigrant, she worked 12-hour shifts at Beverly Hills beauty salons, taking only one day off each week.

Skittles and Lucky Charms must have too much influence on me, because whenever I see a rainbow, I just want to eat it like hard candy. Mmmmm, rainbow Jolly Rancher. But besides my pop cultural conditioning, I think that a rainbow's appeal lies in its very immateriality — rainbows are pure color, ethereal entities composed of some of nature's juiciest hues.

Potential nerd alert: recently, I have become rather captivated with time travel movies. What's not to love? The main characters make some kind of fantastical journey through time, typically to make things right.

Naomi Campbell's eyebrows, like everything else about her face, are amazing. They're also not at all the conventional "right" shape, which makes her a textbook case for why heart-shaped faces need their own brow advice — those generic tips don't do your lovely face shape justice. Heart-y girls who want their best brows now need only read more.

When I was younger, I admired businesswoman Angela Bower on Who's the Boss?, aka "Yo Angeler" by her loving housekeeper, Tony Micelli. On the show, Angela was a successful advertising executive who preferred full-shouldered power suits, and almost always accessorized with oversize power earrings.
In a slick move, which I adored, Angela would promptly remove one of the earrings, and toss her feathered hairstyle back before picking up the phone.

You all know how much I love a good Chanel lip gloss, but I hadn't tried Chanel Rouge Allure Laque Luminous Satin Lip Lacquer ($32), so I was excited to see that reader gooz1231 had. Her review, though, makes me want to head down to the store and try one right now. She says:
"This lip product from Chanel (think a hybrid between a lipstick and gloss) is absolutely amazing.

Perms get such a bad rap just because grandmas love them and they were a staple ingredient of '80s hair. Despite the fact that I know how useful they can be, and how many different kinds of perms there are, I might almost be hesitant to tell people if I got one, just for fear that they'd start laughing before I could explain. What's your opinion on the whole thing?
