It was the final day of Fashion Week, and while I'm sad to see it go, I'm excited to discover how many of these hair and makeup looks will make the transition into the mainstream. These final two days were absolutely lovely, with more old-guard designers like Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, and Oscar De La Renta injecting an elegance that nicely hedged the experimental looks from younger designers. Rich Hippie Hair at Nanette Lepore

Hey Jimmy Paul, Serena van der Woodsen called. She wants her hair back! At Nanette Lepore, Bumble & Bumble hairstylist Jimmy Paul created a look that was very similar to the one Serena wore to Blair's party on Monday night's episode (if you got a perfect score on the quiz, you know this). So get excited: not only do you get to find out from a master how to have Serena hair, you can now tell people you're inspired by Nanette Lepore's Spring 2009 runway - not, um, a teen soap opera.

For this look, which Paul described as "boho, hippie inspired," Paul began with natural waves enhanced by Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray. "If a girl's hair is fine, we're using a curling iron. If she has very fine hair, we'll put in more Surf Spray at the roots to enhance the wave before curling it. If they come with waves that need a little help, we're doing just the Surf Spray. If a girl has dry hair, we're using Styling Balm on the ends. It's meant to look very natural." And the braids? "To open up the face, we're putting one on either side with a middle part and a few random ones. Some models have buns to show the details on the back of the clothes. It's a little haphazard, a little off-center, braided, and looped around with a few bobby pins. It's supposed to look very beachy, like a girl did it herself." So what is the best way to do it yourself? "It's easier to coax the wave out of wet hair, so spray in some Surf Spray, more towards the middle and the ends. It's supposed to be fuller on the ends and flatter on top. With a curling iron, concentrate more on the ends, you don't have to go all the way to the root." Throw in some braids and you're golden.

Trend Alert: Orange You Glad

Orange blush is emerging as a trend for Spring 2009. I spotted it being rubbed into models' cheeks at Carlos Miele (left), Nanette Lepore, and Matthew Williamson. "I think it's a new way of using a bronze. Rather than having a shimmery bronzer effect, you can use an orange for a sun-kissed look," said Polly Osmond backstage at Nanette Lepore. She and makeup artist Romy Soleimani (at Carlos Miele) both used MAC Pro Color Base in Devilish Orange. "For Nanette, I mixed the orange with Cream Color Base in Brown. If you go overboard on the orange, you can always mix a little concealer in over it to it to take it down," said Osmond.

If you want to rock the look now, during the last few days of Summer, try Kevyn Aucoin The Creamy Moist Glow in Tansoleil. Or if you happen to have an orange lipstick, experiment with that.

Trend Alert: Orange Cheeks For Spring

When you imagine orange on the face you might cringe a little, thinking of unflattering Oompa-Loompa-like effects. But you might be surprised that orange blush can give a flattering sun-kissed look that's fresh, not gaudy. Seeing that many designers featured the shade during 2009 Spring New York Fashion Week, I predicted that orange blush would be a trend during the upcoming warmer months.

Makeup artists used MAC Pro Color Base in Devilish Orange at Nanette Lepore and Carlos Miele, and I've got some great color suggestions in my widget below. Tip: Use creamy orange lipstick as a blush substitute.

New York Fashion Week brought a gaggle of front row sightings, a couple emerging trends, and a whole lot of sleep-deprived nights. I have a couple more trends and tricks to share with you, but while I catch up on the ZZZs, you can catch up on this week's most stylish posts.

The look at Anna Sui inspired romantic missives.
Spotted: Gossip Girl hair at Nanette Lepore and a how-to from Jimmy Paul, who masterminded the look.
Charlotte Tilbury spilled a Kate Moss beauty secret at Matthew Williamson.
NARS chief makeup artist Ayako gave the 411 on the beauty inspiration for 3.1 Phillip Lim.
Miss Sixty sexes it up with bouncy hair and vintage Playboy-inspired makeup.
Val Garland gave tips to get the sooty black eyeliner at Hervé Legér.
Rodarte was wonderfully weird.
Proenza Schouler looked back to wartime for its hair and makeup.
Twinkle's look is totally wearable.

Beauty Byte: Alberta Ferretti to Launch Beauty Line

Elizabeth Arden has snagged fashion giant Alberta Ferretti as its latest high-profile partner. Fashion Week Daily reports that Ferretti will join the rapidly growing list of fashion designers who have licensed their names for the use on skincare, cosmetics, and fragrance lines.

The line will debut with a fragrance in spring 2009, with skincare and makeup to follow. The details of the products themselves are still under wraps, but it is targeted towards a women who "lives in the present yet looks to the future."

A little vague, but I think we can expect Ferretti to maintain the same levels of excellence with the line as she does with her fashion house. One thing's for sure: it promises to be a lucrative partnership for Ferretti, based on the success of Arden's other licensced lines, which include wildly popular fragrances by Badgley Mischka and Nanette Lepore, among others. Judging by her gorgeous clothing collections, it's likely that Ferretti could turn out an equally lovely product line, don't you think?

New York Fashion Week, Fall 2007: Designers for Darfur

On Friday evening, many, many designers, fashionistas, and do-gooders gathered together in New York City's Roseland Ballroom in support of trying to help end the atrocities of genocide taking place in Darfur. Since it was the finale of Fall 2007 Fashion Week, the theme of the event was a grand fashion show appropriately titled, Designers for Darfur.

The hosts of the evening were Lydia Hearst Shaw (shown) and Malcolm Harris of Mal Sirrah. The sponsor was Steve Madden who not only presented, but he also provided all of the footwear for the models.

The show was beautifully orchestrated and went off without a hitch. Some highlights were: a long flowing yellow dress with a jewel accent, a stunning floor length turquoise evening dress as well as the adorable children walking the runway. All of the clothing was created in Africa's colors; red, green, black/yellow.

All the items from the show are being auctioned off on ebay right now. All profits will go toward the Save Darfur Coalition so please check it out!
