Love It or Hate It? Lily Allen's GQ Party Pin Curls

Lily Allen certainly isn't afraid to experiment with new hairstyles: She's been a brunette, a blonde, and various shades of pink. Here, her hair is a beautiful shade of black (your favorite color on her) but instead of an unusual color, she's exploring a full head of curls. I can't decide if the curls pinned atop her hair at the GQ's Men of the Year Awards are adorably Betty Boop or just a little too over-the-top. What do you think?

Easy Tip: Go to Bed, Wake Up With Curls

Wake up with gorgeous curls - seriously, fast and easy! Spend the morning making a nice cup of tea and watching CNN rather than working on your hair.

Wash your hair at night.
Put your favorite styling cream in damp hair.
Flip your head over (bending at the waist) and pull all hair into a scrunchie on the top of your head.
Section by section, roll hair into curlers and pin. ( I have very long hair and I only need about 6-7 curlers).
Everything stays on the top of your head so you don't feel a thing when you are sleeping.

In the morning: magic! Remove the curlers and scrunchie; either brush hair or finger tousle and you're done! Beautiful hair! I read this somewhere and do it all the time. It is a REAL time saver with fab results!

Keep Curls Bouncy With This Simple Idea

Long, soft curls and waves look classic and fresh at the same time - just check out Audrina Patridge's hair here. But raise your hand if you've ever spent time meticulously styling your hair, only to watch the curls go limp within an hour. Annoying. But stylist Dean Banowetz, whom you may know from the InStyler, has an easy fix.

"After you’re done curling the hair, roll the hair back up and pin it with a clip," he says. "That's really essential, because then the hair can cool properly in that formation. While it's cooling, finish your makeup or finish doing whatever else it is you need to do. If you want the curl to loosen out, you can just let it hang."

Be sure to use hair spray to set the curls. (Banowetz recommends Tre Milano Shine Spray.) Then, watch your waves stay all day long. Easy!

Can't Do Bedhead? Try These Five-Minute Curls Instead

For times when the sultry bedhead hairstyle or tousled beach waves aren't what you're going after, why not play up the sexy side of curls with something a bit more mellow? You can still rock a come-hither look, without going the route of the old-timey roller set-style, either. At Milan Fashion Week, Hilary Swank looked stunning with waved hair that avoided being too prim and proper. What I like most about her loose, softly rolled curls is that they're not perfectly pouffed, but they still have that sensuous factor without being too in-your-face sexpot. This is a look I do about once or twice a week when I've got about five extra minutes in the morning, and by nighttime, it's perfectly tousled for cocktail hour. How-To: Kristen Bell's Braided Updo

Kristen Bell's red carpet appearances are almost always practically flawless, and at last night's premiere of Couples Retreat in LA, the actress dazzled once again. This time, it was her loose and wavy braided updo that had heads turning. To copy the look at home, you'll need just a few basic items and a little creativity:

Part your hair to the side and section off the front of your hair from the back. A good guideline is to create a part from ear to ear.

Next, pull the back section into a loose ponytail. Braid, using the four-strand method. Secure with an elastic band and twist the braid up toward the occipital bone. Secure with bobby pins.

Twist small sections of hair from the front into the back of the updo. Weave some of the strands together for a wavy effect. To create a seamless look, hide the pins behind the braid.

To finish off the look, curl face-framing strands, and softly pull back away from the face. Spritz on a volumizing spray for lift, like Nexxus 360 Volume Volumizing Design and Finishing Mist ($11.50).

When it comes to Christian and hair, would you expect anything less? Beenders version is low and sleek, featuring both rough and smooth textures. "Christian and I worked together to create a hair look that reflects the inspiration behind his collection - waves and the ocean, with shimmering silks, silvers, and blues," she said. Here's another one for the annals of Lady Gaga's wildest looks: pin-curled pink and blond hair, masses of glittery black eye shadow, and half a Phantom of the Opera mask, topped off with a big ol' Victorian hat. She clearly loves to have fun with her image, and I applaud her willingness to experiment, but what do you think? Get the Perfect Loose Curl With These Easy Tips

For those of us with seriously straight hair, trying to get loose, soft curls like the ones Kat Dennings had on the red carpet for the movie Shorts can be maddening - your hair is too curly right out of the curling iron, so then you have to brush it out a little or put in some hair creme, then your curls won't stay in without a ton of hairspray, but that just makes them crunchy and heavy, so after a couple of hours they fall out anyway. How-To: Ashlee Simpson's Laid-Back Asymmetric Updo

Have you noticed a hot trend emerging on the red carpet? These days, it's all about loose, casually tossed-back updos with pieces left out in the front. Renée Zellweger has been sporting different versions of the look over the past few days, from her tousled bangs she wore at the September Issue premiere to the soft and feminine look she wore earlier this week. At last night's InStyle Summer Soiree in LA, Ashlee Simpson presented her take, complete with asymmetric, twisty angles. Like the look? Get some tips for achieving the casual style when you read more.

Using a shine-enhancing, medium-hold gel like Kiehl's Clean-Hold Styling Gel ($15), blow dry the hair with a round brush for volume and soft curl.
Create a side part in the front, leaving all of the hair from the back of the ear to the front of the hairline out. Sweep the hair behind the lighter side of the part towards the opposite, heavier side. Secure the hair by creating a loose ponytail with an elastic band, using bobby pins to anchor where needed.
Tuck and pin some of the loose ends of the ponytail under the band. Then, twist and pin some of the other loose ends for a tousled effect.
Next, take a few chunky pieces from the front sections of the hair and twist them back into the ponytail. Secure with bobby pins. Finish off by loosely curling the remaining pieces in the front for a bohemian look.
