Last night at the Margot at the Wedding premiere, Helena Christensen arrived sporting one of this season's hottest beauty trends, bold red lips. Last month she graced the black carpet at the 30 Days of Night premiere with a similar hairstyle, but with barely-there lip gloss. Which lipstick do you prefer on Helena - or should I say, which color do you think makes her amazing eyes stand out more?

Trend Alert: Short Red Nails

It's not that red nails have ever gone out of style, it's just that the variation of shades and the shape of the nail changes. For example, in the '80s, long pointy nails rocked, and in the '90s, long rounded nails were stylin'. This season, short red nails are red hot! Just check out the digits on trend setters Keri Russell, Nicole Richie, Christina Aguilera and Mary-Kate Olsen.

Back To Basics: The Best Red Nail Polishes

Welcome to back to the basics! This is a BellaSugar feature that highlights some of my favorite products on the market that don't always get the attention they deserve because they aren't new or improved.

Red nail polish is a quintessentially classic look, and I hope you like these suggestions. OPI Red ($7.50) is more of a pinky-red than a true tomato red. I've been a big fan of this color for a long, long time and I even sported it on my toes for the better part of 2005! It is part of the OPI Classics Nail Polish collection, and it remains one of OPI's best-selling colors.

Revlon Red Nail Enamel ($4.59) is the first red nail polish I ever tried and I wore it for years. Now this is a true red. Not too orange, not too blue. It's the perfect polish to make a statement, and you can't beat the price!

Chanel Le Vernis in Shanghai Red ($19) is a deep red with just a little bit of shimmer. This was the first "designer" nail polish I ever wore. As much as I love, love, love the color, I'll admit, it's not very chip resistant. However, it does have a high shine and requires very little drying time.

Right now we all know that red is in the air....so get yourself red hot for the holidays! These glosses make a more subtle statement than red lipsticks because they are more sheer.

Dior Addict Plastic Gloss in Electrifying Red, $23.50, is a beautiful and brilliant gloss that doesn't hint around the fact that it's red. It's a thick and highly pigmented color that will leave your lips looking full and incredibly shiny. Dior's claim to fame is creating this wet "vinyl like" look so be prepared to turn some heads!

Bourjois Rouge Hyperfix, $16, is a double gloss! One side is a ten hour, semi-permanent lip cream that dries instantly and will keep your lips locked in with color. The other side is a sheer gloss containing silicone to add shine and vavoom! Start with the creamy side first and then apply the transparent topcoat. Even I was surprised how long this gloss lasts. This is a great gloss choice for when you are at a party and won't be able to reapply often.

How To: Wear Red Lips

The pin-up girl has gone mainstream, and red lips are red-hotter than ever before. Though Christina Aguilera is best known for this look, a number of young Hollywood celebs, including Lindsay Lohan, are wearing these very adult lips. Earlier today, I told you about five of my picks for the best red lipsticks, but before you rush out and buy one, keep in mind that wearing this shade right can be tricky. Here are some helpful tips for choosing the right shade and applying it just right.

Step 1: Choosing the Right Shade

If you have a warm olive or dark skin-tone, you will want to look for a shade of red with orange or coral undertones. For those of you with cool (fair) skin-tone, you will want to look for a shade of red with blue or pink undertones. Something to note, however, is that deep brick reds can be worn by almost anyone, because the brownish color is so neutralizing.

Step 2: Applying It Right

To get perfect red lips, start by lining them evenly with a lip liner and dotting concealer or powder around the edge of your lips, so that the color doesn't bleed. Also, it helps to powder your lips before applying the lipstick, which will help the effect last longer.
