Modeling Maverick Takes It All Off

I haven't been watching the new season of She's Got the Look, but if I'd known this sort of thing would go on, I'd have popped out the Elmer's and glued myself to the TV. During last night's episode of the modeling-competition show, a contestant named Laurie goes berserk. We're talking about jogging-in-place, taking-off-her-shirt berserk (so, um, maybe don't watch while the boss is around). Laurie - a self-described iconoclast and maverick - says she took her top off because "beauty is spiritual."

Sadly, Laurie is off the show, so the whole reason to check it out every week has jogged off the set. I'm not 100 percent convinced that this outburst was unscripted, but it's entertaining nonetheless. Did you see it last night, or does it make you more likely to watch the show?

Last night, the season two premiere of the reality show She's Got the Look premiered on TV Land. I confess I didn't pay much attention to season one of the over-35 modeling competition, but I'm willing to give it another try, particularly after seeing celebrity stylist Robert Verdi throw down in his clipboard in disbelief after a stunningly youthful-looking 72-year-old appears on the runway (see it around the 1:25 mark). The show is similar in concept to ANTM, and this time around they're adding a $100,000 prize in the mix. Did you tune in?

She's Got the Look: A Step Forward, or Back?

Summertime always brings us a dose of reality TV shows. This week marks the debut of She's Got the Look, a modeling competition. (Yes, the theme song is by Roxette. Gross.) The concept is similar to Top Model, but the twist is that all of the contestants are 35 or older. The winner receives a contract with Wilhemina and a spread in Self magazine. And instead of Tyra and the Jays, the judges include Beverly Johnson and stylist Robert Verdi. Like any reality show, there's the requisite "people who don't have a chance in Hades" reel:

I'm conflicted about this show. If it's done well, it'll be a great reminder that women don't stop being attractive when they turn 35. But unlike the young Top Model contestants, these would-be models might have insecurities about their age - and one biting criticism could bring all of those out. Here's hoping that the show winds up being empowering. Will you tune in?

Recently, I learned a tip from La Prairie's Color Ambassador, Raychel Wade. It's so obvious, yet so incredibly true. She says:

When it comes to eye shadow quads, don't feel pressured to use all four colors in a quad at once. Sometimes eye makeup looks just a pretty with one simple hue.

Like I said before, it's obvious, yes. However, this got me to thinking about my own habits. For some reason or another, I feel pressure to use most - if not all - colors in my own multishadow palettes. I suppose I feel like they're all there for a reason, working in perfect harmony, you dig? What about you: do you work with all of the shades in your quads, or do just use one simple hue?
