Product Review: Stella McCartney Soft Deodorant

Bear with me a moment while we talk about something a little unusual. A couple of years ago, I decided to make the switch from antiperspirant to deodorant. At the time, I was suffering from some pretty gross breakouts, and I had a crazy theory that antiperspirant, by blocking my sweat glands, was sending toxins to my face and turning them into pimples. (Like I said, it was a crazy theory.)

Anyway, when I went shopping for aluminum-free deodorants, I wasn't too excited by the, er, natural selection. Tom's of Maine left a slimy trail in my underarms, and the "crystal" deodorant irritated my skin. Then I tried Stella McCartney's deodorant (well, not hers-but you know what I mean). I love Stella eau de parfum because it's soft but complex, and the deodorant is just as pleasing. It's a roll-on, and the formula itself is a milky, watery liquid that takes about 30 seconds to dry. By design, a deodorant doesn't stop you from sweating, but after about a week I realized that I just don't sweat that much in the first place. Having softly scented underarms that match the fragrance on my wrists made me feel luxurious-or at least as luxurious as one can feel when we're talking about perspiration.

Stella Soft Deodorant is $19, and I've found it only at Nordstrom. As a sweat-blocker goes, it's pricey, but the cost is completely justified if you love the scent (which I do) and you treat it as part of your "fragrance wardrobe." Have you tried it? What do you think?

Stella McCartney Does It Again With Sheer Stella

Apples and lemons and flowers, oh my! Sheer Stella, $52, is the newest limited edition fragrance by Stella McCartney that will be released in just two short weeks - and let me tell you, it's worth getting giddy about!

This might be the most delicate and refreshing scent that I have ever encountered. It reminds me of her original fragrance, Stella, yet it is more floral and not nearly as heavy. This summer scent is made from hearty roses, green apples, peony, lemon zest and amber.

The bottle is also equally grand. It's something that you'd be proud to display on a shelf. Would you really expect anything less from such a fab designer?

The bottle is a bit retro and was inspired by nature. It has a chic angular shape, with pink tinted perfume inside the clear bottle with metallic silver flowers layered throughout. Not only does this fragrance smell luxurious, but it looks it too! It is available in a 3.3 oz Eau de Toilette only. You excited yet?

New! Skincare from Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney has launched a new skincare line called Care. The line, like its creator, is based wholly on vegan principles. It is 100% organic, and contains 0% petrochemicals, 0% silicones and 0% chemical preservatives.

The line is comprised of seven products: three elixirs, a cleansing milk, a purifying foaming cleanser, a green tea and linden-blossom floral water and a luxurious hydrating cream.

The packaging is amazing; it looks very hi-tech with its tubular all white bottles and silver outer packaging encasement.

If you are curious about the line, but don't want to invest in full size products, I suggest that you try the great travel sized Care Discovery Set. It is $38 and includes a four-piece, trial-sized sampling of the products such as: all three of Care's elixirs and a .169 oz super rich Benefits Moisturising Cream.

Stella McCartney and LeSportsac Create Eco-Friendly Cosmetics Cases

If ever there was an example of how fashion and beauty go hand-in-hand, this is it. New, from organic skin care developer and clothing and accessories designer Stella McCartney, is a brand-new line of chic, eco-friendly cosmetic and travel cases. Stella partnered with the king of lightweight carry-alls, LeSportssac to bring us two functional and practical toiletry totes made from 100% recycled eco-polyester.

The items aren't cheap, but they aren't over-the-top either. The Cosmetics Case ($98) contains front and interior easy to access over sized-zip pockets and an interior envelope pocket to maximize organization and space. It is available in a solid cream or grey quilt style or in two floral star patters.

The Hanging Travel Kit ($150) contains a removable inside pocket (where you can store valuables), a mesh pocket and a larger compartment that can fit bottles. It is available in two floral star patterns and one light pink/pale pink color-block variation.

Stella McCartney gets Organic for Night & Day

Since organic food and beauty is so popular these days, I thought I'd tell you more about the most recent product launch from Stella McCartney, Nourishing Night & Day Cream ($80).

This face moisturizer has been developed to help revive all types of dry and dehydrated skin. Made with organic vegetable extracts, cupuacu butter, black-currant buds and brazil nut oil, it creates a mineral- and vitamin-enriched protective layer over your skin. I haven't tried the cream yet, but I'm a sucker for all things vegan, organic, and luxurious-so it's only a matter of time.

Would You Confuse These Two "Nude" Lines?

It's the battle of the nudes, but in the most G-rated of senses. Designer Stella McCartney is being sued over the use of this stripped-down word. Her new scent, StellaNude Eau de Toilette Spray ($43 to $81) is the product in question.

According to Bono's wife, Ali Hewson, who is the co-founder of Nude Skincare Stella's new fragrance is a bit too similar in terminology. A suit has been brought forth over the use of the word, and Stella's company would like to see it settle out of court.

But do Hewson and her partner have much of a case? The concept of nude-toned clothing is a large theme of Stella's fashions, and nude is a rather common word, after all. Plus, one brand is skincare and the other is a fragrance. What do you think? Would you be confused by these two nude lines, or does Hewson not even have a case?
