You might remember hearing about the so-called "botax," a proposed five percent tax that would have affected those partaking in elective cosmetic surgery. However, with mounting pressure from the medical industry, who claimed that the tax was discriminatory against women (since we are typically the main customers of such services), it's out with the botax and in with the "tantax."
Earlier this month, talk of a tanning tax arose, and now, the Senate, under Majority Leader Harry Reid, is moving forward with this so-called tantax, adding it to the health bill.

Even though we all suspected that tanning beds were bad for us, ever since the World Health Organization officially confirmed them to be carcinogenic back in July, we were truly certain of the risks. Recently, the FDA put out a warning against the dangers of tanning-induced ultraviolet exposure in its article, Indoor Tanning: The Risks of Ultraviolet Rays, and this has the Senate talking.
We've seen some states toy around with the idea of banning under-18 tanning before, and now, a potential tanning tax is being talked about by the Senate in relation to recent health bill discussions.

If you didn't believe me about the risk of tanning beds before, please stop and read this now. Assessments by World Health Organization oncologists (cancer specialists) have concluded what we've suspected for years — that the UV light used in artificial tanning beds is indeed a carcinogen, one at the same grade of toxicity as gamma radiation and plutonium. This means that instead of saying that the radiation from a tanning bed might cause cancer, now we know that it undoubtedly will.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but tanning is so bad for you. Put aside the accelerated signs of aging, which are no trip to the beach. (Ha.) Not only does UV exposure create uneven skin tone and wrinkles, it also can cause melanoma.

I am on a serious pursuit for the perfect self-tanner. You know the drill. It has to be nonorange, nonstreaking, and nonoffensive in the odor department.
