Next month, The L Word returns for its final season, and judging by the previews, it's gonna be a good one. (Face it, any show that features Kate Moennig is going to be worth watching.)

To commemorate the show's Jan. 18 return, Three Custom Color Specialists has created four lipsticks ($20 each) inspired by Bette, Kit, Alice, and Shane - and the sheer shades are alluring indeed. They're currently available for preorder, so check out the colors when you read more.

Explore Cool Makeup Shade Choices With Chad Hayduk

You've hopefully taken my warm and cool undertones quiz and learned about the basics of color choice selection from Chad Hayduk, Three Custom Color Specialists' makeup artist and co-founder. We've learned all about the warms - and now cools - it's your turn to sparkle in all of your jewel-toned glory.

Cools should feel special, since you account for only 15 percent of the population. So, let's get down to the nitty-gritty and bring it all together with some makeup shades picked by Chad himself, along with some other options I found.

Bella Interview: Chad Hayduk, Co-Founder of Three Custom Color Specialists

Now that you've taken my quiz to determine if your undertones are warm or cool, I thought it would be, er, cool to delve into the topic a bit deeper. In my three-part series, I'll be featuring tips and tricks from Chad Hayduk, co-founder of Three Custom Color Specialists.

Perhaps one of the best services offered by this nifty cosmetics company (see a tour!) is its adeptness in customizing blends - whether to help you recreate a beloved discontinued shade, or whip up a batch of your own perfect hue.

Another one of its specialties? Taking the guesswork out of the oft-posed question, "Am I a warm or a cool?" Look for more color-specific lip, cheek, and eyeshadow choices from Chad later this week. In the meantime, check out some helpful tips from Hayduk below. read more

On determining your undertone

The easiest way to tell is by taking a gold and silver lipstick or eye shadow to see which one melts into your skin. If the gold disappears and the silver is icy, you are a warm. If the silver melts and the gold is dramatic, you are a cool.
Also, ask yourself what happens when you are in the sun. If you burn and/or get a rosy-red tan, you're a cool. If you get a golden tone, you are a warm. Eighty-five percent of the population is warm.

On mixing and matching warm and cool colors

There is no reason why you can't mix warms and cools. Cools can look really dramatic on warm tones and vice versa.
To look the most natural, choose colors that are more appropriate for your tone.

About how neutrals fit into the mix

Just because it's taupe, camel, or brown, that doesn't mean it's a neutral. "Neutral colors have equal parts warm and cool," Chad says. "Think of true red and champagne, which is equal parts of gold and silver."

On color selection choices

For cools, "Think of the colors of ice - silvers, whites, and blues," Chad advises. Look for jewel tones like sapphire, ruby, emerald, and amethyst.
For warms, Chad says, "Think of the colors of fire - golds, bronzes, coppers, russets, khaki green, and chocolate brown."
Once you get the knack, you can then start using these guidelines to pick out optimal colors in other areas such as clothing and even your house paint choices, so you'll look best in many aspects (and lighting) of your life!

What do you think is the best makeup look for a Summer bride?
It should be very classic, very clean, very beautiful, not too heavy - and that’s what we went for. The look was just very sunny, fresh, and beautiful. We all spend a lot of time and a lot of money taking such good care of our skin these days, there isn’t really a lot of need to cover it up unless you really have to.

What products did you use to create this look?
We used all Three Custom products. We created a very light smokiness around the eye using our Brow Powder No. 6 ($19.50), and no eye shadow at all. We made the face really flawless with our Creme Concealer ($19.50), set it with powder, then added a couple of coats of our Black Mascara ($19.50), and then our new Lip & Cheek Stain ($20) in Poppy on the cheeks. We created a custom lip gloss for them called JLM, which stands for Just Love Me, a beautiful shimmery petal pink that’s lovely and looks great on everybody.

I've read about this brand for years, so when co-founder Chad Hayduk gave me a tour, I wanted to share some of the most interesting parts with you. What To Do If Your Favorite Makeup Shade Is Discontinued

I think it's happened to us all. You head to the store to stock up on your favorite lipstick that you've worn for years, only to be informed by the clerk that it's been discontinued. Panic strikes, then anger. You wonder how and why this could happen.

Don't take it personally. Cosmetics companies frequently switch up inventories to make way for new technology and trends. Often, it's the lower-selling items that suffer the most. But don't fret, because there are tips and tricks to track down shades that have fallen victim to discontinuation. Get the details when you read more.

Customize: They don't call themselves Three Custom Color Specialists for nothing. The company will custom blend to re-create your favorite shades. Prescriptives offers a similar service, too.
Power of the people: If you're upset about an item being discontinued, let the company know about it. Who knows? They might just reconsider if they hear from enough diehard fans.
Check the websites: Many brands have special sections of their websites devoted entirely to products that are being or have been discontinued, like Estée Lauder's Gone But Not Forgotten program or Urban Decay's R.I.P. Items section.
Hit the discount stores and overstock sites: Hello, TJ Maxx for perfume, and Cosmetics and More and BuyMeBeauty.com for low-cost finds. Don't forget about Overstock.com for discontinued goods as well.
Auction: There's no place like eBay when it comes to long lost cosmetics. Just don't get suckered by counterfeit makeup.
Change with the times: Change is a constant. Take it as an opportunity to try out a new shade. Better yet, many companies offer up suggestions for replacements, like CoverGirl's In With the New page.
Swaparoo: If exchanging makeup with strangers feels OK, the "swap" feature from Makeup Alley might just score you the goods.

Champagne Beauty For New Year's Eve

For me, on New Year's Eve there are two things I can't go without: my cheesy champagne purse that's been around for years. . . and well, champagne. When it comes down to it, the bubbly also turns out to be a perfect color in cosmetics. The universally flattering goes-with-everything hue typically pops up in soft pink makeup shades with a bit of shimmer - just like the drink itself.

Seriously, who doesn't look good in a neutral shimmer? When I interviewed Three Custom Color Specialists' Chad Hayduk back in August, he agreed. "Neutral colors have equal parts warm and cool," he said. "Think of true red and champagne, which is equal parts of gold and silver." Pretty nifty.
