Be a Clown With Viktor & Rolf For Shu Uemura

Remember when I told you back in January that one of my favorite design duos, Viktor & Rolf, were teaming up with Shu Uemura to create a line of false eyelashes? Well, the fruits of their labor are finally ready for the public, and the lashes are just as fresh and whimsical as you would expect. The three falsies were inspired by Viktor & Rolf's Spring 2008 collection, which itself was inspired by Marcel Marceau. It's no surprise, then, that they're fit for a clown, especially the rhombus with its gold-diamond pattern that looks like it belongs on a jester. I'm loving the playfulness of the set, even though they're not exactly wearable day-to-day (although stay tuned for pictures of Sugar girls wearing them!). If you're clamoring for the lashes, they'll soon be on Shu Uemura's website.

Viktor & Rolf's Eyelash Plan Is a Shu-In

Huzzah! One of my favorite design duos, Viktor & Rolf, are doing another collaboration. After creating a sold-out collection for H&M a couple of years ago, now they're creating a line of false eyelashes this spring. It shouldn't surprise you that Shu Uemura is the partner for their Dutch lovin', especially because Shu is so praised for its fake-lash prowess.

The lashes, inspired by the pair's spring 2008 collection, include three styles: Wing, Wing 2 and Rhombus. They're retailing for the hefty price of 79 Euros-that's about $114 American-so I'll have to admire them from afar. No word on what they'll look like, but check out this gallery to see the clothes that inspired the lashes. Maybe they'll be violin-shaped.

Viktor & Rolf Try to Outdo Flowerbomb With Eau Mega

Flowerbomb, Viktor & Rolf's first fragrance, has been a cult hit since it came out a few years ago. But this week, the brand quietly released its second scent, Eau Mega. Just so you all know how dedicated I am to good-smellin' stuff, I trekked all the way down to Nordstrom during lunch to sniff it, since only a few locations have the fragrance so far. Luckily, the reconnaissance on this baby is good.

V&R didn't play it safe at all, and Eau is totally different from the F-bomb, though just as playful. The atomizer is also too cute to be believed, and well worth playing with (you spray it by squeezing the big gold V&R seal on the side). Viktor & Rolf Explode Into Fragrance

How can you not love a perfume called Flowerbomb? The first-ever fragrance from Viktor & Rolf, Flowerbomb is putting a new twist on both the pretty pink perfume bottle and the traditional understanding of a floral-centric scent.

At its fashion shows, the designer duo is known for being high-concept, and its exotic floral perfume follows in that theme. Consider this description from Viktor & Rolf's web site: "Flowerbomb was designed as a women's perfume with layers of flowers, like layered pastry, only with flowers, for a true perfume woman." The patchouli-based scent contains tones of exotic plants, including bergamot, cattleya orchid, jasmine, China osmanthus, freesia, and centifolia rose. The eau de parfum is available here and costs $95 for a 1.7-ounce bottle and $150 for a 3.4-ounce version.

PartySugar Dishes Out Beauty Tips

Frequent readers of YumSugar are no doubt familiar with PartySugar. She really is the hostess with the mostest, and not only does she throw the best bashes, she always looks enviably polished while doing so. Read on to find out what's in her makeup bag.

Which beauty products are your must-haves?
Spanish Dove spray can deodorant. Yes, I purchase my deodorant in bulk while traveling in Spain. It never leaves any white residue and is simply my fave. St. Ives Oatmeal scented body wash, Dove tanning lotion, MAC and Nars eye shadows, Dior mascara, Lancome lip glosses. The Venus Vibrance razor in pink; I use two to make my shaving super fast.

What’s your favorite beauty ritual?
Painting my nails. I paint them once a week, almost always on Wednesday nights. I have been doing this for the past 10 years. Painting my nails is like therapy. The color I choose affects the outlook on the upcoming week.

What’s your go-to lip product?
Gloss, always lip gloss. I have 4 in my purse right now and about 10 colors that are in my current rotation. I like Lancome Juicy Tubes, MAC lipglass, and Dior lip gloss. I once won a contest at a party for being the girl with the most lip gloss in her purse. It was very exciting.

What is your morning beauty routine?
For being a beauty lover and a super girlie girl, I consider myself pretty low key. I always put on face cream with SPF, a neutral-colored shadow, and mascara. I sit in front of a computer all day so an overly glam look is a waste of makeup. My hair depends on if its curly, wavy, straight, or just washed.

What’s your signature fragrance?
Viktor and Rolf Flowerbomb. Love it.

What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever received?
A cold rinse. To make your hair shiny, wash out conditioner with cold water.

And the worst advice?
I bought one of those expensive treatments to help get rid of bikini waxing breakouts. Huge waste of money. Tried it once and wasn’t convinced.

Any tips or tricks you want to share with readers?
If you see a look you like in a picture or magazine, rip it out, take it home, and try to recreate it. Also, apparently for every six used eye shadows you bring into MAC, they’ll give you a free lip gloss. I’m not sure if they really do it, though, I have one more shadow to go until I have six. [Bella's note: It's true! Take six empty MAC containers to the store and you get a free lip gloss or lipstick.]

Your favorite drugstore beauty product?
Revlon nail polish and Lip Smackers Dr. Pepper lip gloss.

When do you feel the most beautiful?
After a day at the beach, when I’m sitting watching the sunset with fabulous company and a refreshing cocktail. Oh and when I leave the hair salon, of course - but who doesn’t feel gorgeous after Champagne and a great, styled haircut?

Bella Interview: Kristin Ess

Talk about overachievers. In high school, Kristin Ess was working at a posh Beverly Hills salon, paving the way for her current stylist spot at Warren-Tricomi salon in Los Angeles. At the young age of 20, she began working on runway shows, eventually creating hair for designers including Marc Jacobs, Diesel, St. John, Rami Kashou, and Thom Browne. She's also worked with Rachel McAdams, Amber Valetta, Rachael Leigh Cook, and the Hills ladies.

A few weeks ago, I got to talk with Kristin about her career, hair trends, and the best drugstore steals. Since we had a lot to talk about, I'm splitting the interview into a few parts. Be sure to come back tomorrow for more insights and advice from Kristin!

You started working in a Beverly Hills salon when you were in high school. How did you know at such a young age that you wanted to work with hair?
I have nine brothers and sisters-I'm number 10. Most of them were younger than me, so I was always doing someone's hair. It was always my thing. Everybody knew that's what I was going to do. I did a report on it in the fourth grade for my career report, and my mom still has that and it's framed. It's like, "I want to move to Beverly Hills and do hair for One Life to Live" or something. I just always knew I wanted to style hair.

Before we talked, I was trying to think of well-known stylists that are women. I know of a ton that are men-Ted Gibson and Harry Josh, for example-but for women, it seems like there's Sally Hershberger but not a lot of other famous female stylists. Why do you think that is?
I don't know, but I'm working on that! It's always been my problem. Do you know Odille Gilbert from Paris? She's been in it for a long time. She's amazing. She's done Galliano runway, Viktor and Rolf, everything. And her work is very distinct-you know her work when you see it. There are a couple of women, but very few.

[Hair styling] is definitely saturated with men. It's funny, because I was actually watching the screening of Bumble & bumble Hair Heroes when it came out. I was sitting there with [B&b founder] Michael Gordon and I asked, "Why are there no women in this at all? You guys are styling women's hair and there are no women hairdressers." It's all men. It's just so funny to me.

Yeah, it's very strange because I feel there's such a bond with a hairdresser, and sometimes women might better understand what it's like to have long hair.
Exactly. It's funny because we always have that conversation. If there are men, whether there are gay or straight, I think sometimes a straight man doing hair knows what he wants to see a woman look like, so he can produce sexy hairstyles. And then gay men, I have conversations with these guys, and some are like, "I always wanted to have long hair, so I try it on my clients. With women, we know because of firsthand experience. It's interesting that you mention it-because people know it, but nobody really mentions the fact that there are not a lot of women doing editorial styling.

What Do You Get from Runway Looks?

We're into full-blown Fashion Week season, with lots of looks from New York, London, and Paris. This model walked in the Viktor & Rolf show in Paris, and I was struck by her babydoll makeup and wildly wavy hair. It's clearly done to create a high-fashion effect, and it gives me ideas for creating a more toned-down version of the look. I'm curious: What do you get out of runway looks?

Beauty Byte: L'Oreal Sics its Lawyers on eBay

Quick, call the crack team at Boston Legal! L'Oreal is taking eBay to court in five European countries, claiming that the auction site isn't doing enough to crack down on counterfeit cosmetics and fragrances. L'Oreal produces more than just its namesake products; it also owns The Body Shop, Lancome, Kiehl's, Shu Uemura and produces fragrances for Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Viktor & Rolf and Cacharel. In a statement, the company said:

"L'Oreal has been facing an increasing volume of illicit trade in fake fragrances and fake cosmetic products on some online auction sites."

I'm no Matlock, but my guess is that this lawsuit won't go far, because eBay is merely the conduit for the illegal sellers. If you're concerned about buying fakes, check out my guide to spotting them.
