Happy Tuesday, everyone! It was such fun to see all of the violet, purple and lavender eye shadows you found. I know that the colors can often seem garish in their pots, but if you apply with the right makeup brush, they'll look beautiful on the eyes.

Hear the phrase "purple eye shadow" and people either clap with glee or hide in fear. While the color isn't for, uh, shrinking violets, it isn't the brash '80s nightmare you might be afraid of. A light, dusky lavender can be used for a soft smoky eye—or you can go bolder with a deep purple.

With All Hallows' coming on apace, I got to thinking about fakey colored and crazy special effects contacts. I went through a phase where I had, alternately, violet, hazel, and dark blue eyes, and while it was fun, the people around me didn't seem to think it was as awesome as I did. I've even worn special effects contacts (they were cat's eyes for Halloween) and I thought they were pretty fun.

Most of you weren't loving Drew Barrymore's black tips when she debuted them earlier this month, but you have to hand it to the girl. She's definitely someone who can pull off the most extreme of styles. "This is the craziest look I've ever given her!"

Yesterday's Vena Cava show featured neutral-toned clothing, with pops of bold orange thrown in for good measure. But, it was the purple lips that had me mesmerized, and so far, it's been one of my favorite looks at 2010 Spring Fashion Week. The tone remains edgy, but completely wearable, particularly when paired with MAC Coquette Eye Shadow ($14.50), a muted grayish-taupe shade that makeup artist LLoyd Simmonds used to create this look.

When it comes to perfumery, trends do indeed exist — much like in the fashion industry and the culinary world, and in seasonal makeup collections. Recently, Mintel's Global New Products Database, which analyzes consumer behavior and product innovations, took a look at what's en vogue when it comes to women's fragrance. Not surprisingly, organic, eco-friendly products lead the pack.

Although Liz Taylor first first appeared on screen at the age of nine, she shot to superstar status at the age of 12 in 1944's National Velvet. Since then, this beauty with violet eyes has been in the spotlight — through good times and bad.
A longtime AIDS activist, Taylor filmed the bulk of her most successful movies in the 1950s and 1960s.

Almost two years ago, Marc Jacobs launched Daisy to much success. And now, there's a new gal in town, named Lola ($65 to $85). "Where Daisy is more innocent and sweet, Lola is more sensual — the name conjures up a flirtatious, warm spirit," Jacobs told WWD.
