May 27 2009 - 8:00am Are you having a wedding on a budget? Or do you just want to preserve a few before-the-big-day moments in a photo session? Either way, going the DIY route is a totally do-able option — as long as you follow a few guidelines.
I think engagement photos are silly too. I can't ever imagine myself taking cheesy, staged photographs with my future fiance. It's not really my style.
But you can imagine having wedding photos? What do you think those are!?
Frankly, I don't want the only photos of my and my guy to be in a cupcake and a penguin suit! It's a great excuse to get some very professional shots. I know my boyfriend would never agree to
getting pro photos unless it were a special occasion!
My best tip is to underscore and highlight the idea that you take photos that suit your personality. The more unusual, the better! People roll their eyes at a portrait studio style shot. But
something that looks fun... they'll notice!
Photography was my biggest wedding expense, other than the venue/food...I would never have considered skimping on it. I found a wonderful photographer who I really clicked with, and she
created a gorgeous, gorgeous wedding album for me. The prints I ordered from her are also amazing.
The whole engagement photo thing is unnecessary, in my opinion, if you're on a budget...nice to have, but not as monumental as photos of the big day. If you're trying to save money, I'd
definitely forego those rather than going cheap on the actual wedding day photography.
I've been to many engagement parties....and what gives me the happiest feeling is well done, photos of the couple. Especially on the invitation. A professional photo says we are serious about
this, not just, come to my party...bring me a gift. Do it right. Create beautiful memories you can look back on when the goin' gets tuff!
